Posted September 26, 200816 yr I have four very lovely blue normal type birds. 2 hens and 2 cocks. I have tried different pairings with them and am on my last try with one pair together. They have been in the cabinet since 31st August, which is quite a while and if they hadnt done anything in the next few days, I was going to put them out. She has been constantly in and out of the nest box almost since they were put in, but hasnt laid. They are bonded, he has been feeding her and all the signs have been good, but week after week......nothing. Finally!! We have one egg today! And to think I was this > < close to giving up on them. So now I just have to cross my fingers they are a fertile pair
September 27, 200816 yr Too true- I had a pair in the other day and had the dirts with them as they werent showing anything, BUT I only had them in for 3-4 days lol. I think I had been spoilt by the last few down they were right within a week, its times like this you must step back and say to yourself- be realistic!! I think it's because I havent got much time left until the heat kicks in and not enough boxes and some good birds I'd like to get something out of or else I will have to wait until next April. Â If its a pair you think will be good together patience is usually the key. (and the truth in your case it was only 3-4 weeks. I have had pairs go longer
September 27, 200816 yr Author Thank you all for the luck wishes I have been told that if nothing has happened after 4 weeks, to put them out. I so desperately want some normal blues to do splits with down the track. I would like some normal greens, but I actually have NO normal green hens and one very average cock who is only interested in boys anyway  I can understand your impatience pie, I have been lucky with some pairs too, that go down in a week. I am really glad I waited as long as I did though, now I will wait impatiently for results LOL
October 3, 200816 yr Hi Sunnie, Anymore eggs and the first egg you mentioned was laid on the 27th so just wondering if you candle your eggs it would just about right to do it, because its 6 days old, are there any blood vessells running across the egg? I would also like some good quality normals because without these its hard to produce good quality anythings, I've just bred a normal blue cock and 2 normal green hens but not sure about their quality, not great size and blow nothing to really talk about, but sometimes these chick goes through their first moult and turn into wonders. Anyway good luck and let us know of any updates. :happy-dancing:
October 3, 200816 yr Author Last time I checked in, they had 3 eggs, but I try not to look in on my hens too often, once they start laying, to lessen the chances of kicked or addled eggs. Sometimes I take a peek when I havent seen the hen for a while just to make sure she is okay, but I have seen this hen poke her head out often enough to know she is fine. I also dont have a decent torch for candling.........yet. Mind you, I usually just wait until they are due and wait, and wait..... lol  Will keep you updated :happy-dancing:
October 15, 200816 yr Author We totalled 6 eggs. The first was due last Sunday and I checked several times, but I know quite often they are not hatched for a day or two after the due date. Nothing Sunday. Monday morning, I checked again and there was a baby with half the shell off and it was dead in the other half of the shell I have no light to test whether the eggs are fertile or not (yet), so back to the waiting game. Nothing Tuesday BUT I have a gorgeous, healthy beanie in the nest this morning and it looks like its been fed I also have another pair who were due on the same day as the blues, my beautiful Nirvana and his girlfriend Suki and they hatched their first today also. I lost one of my rainbow babies the other day and then finding the first blue baby dead - well I was a bit bummed. Amazing how quickly the birth of a new baby can brighten your spirits though :D Edited October 15, 200816 yr by Neat

October 15, 200816 yr Author I have expressed my interest in the Kaz's torches, that is why I am not rushing off to buy something else
October 15, 200816 yr I have expressed my interest in the Kaz's torches, that is why I am not rushing off to buy something else I will have the torches by end of this week so will be able to post early next week
October 15, 200816 yr Author So I decided I would take a couple of pictures to add to this post so you could see the pairs I have been referring too, and if you believe in fate........ I took pics of Dharma and Tibet, the blues and their baby. The pics of the baby all came out blurry for some reason, and I feel I have bothered them enough today, so I will try for pics of the baby in a day or two.  I also took a picture of Nirvana and Suki and then I went to take a picture of their baby and.......there was no baby!!! I felt the panic in my heart and frantically looked on the cabinet floor. I found the baby and it was still alive and warm, so I put it back with mum and dad. I have checked a few times since and baby is alive and well and I think it was on the floor by accident, but I will be keeping an eye on things just to make sure. I didnt bother mother further by taking pics of this baby either, but here are the parent pictures  Dharma  Tibet  Nirvana and Suki
October 15, 200816 yr CONGRATULATION! Thats great news!! Really glad for you! Good luck with the rest of the eggs... Sorry about the first egg. here's hoping the rest will be normal blues...
