Recessive Pied Male Bird

Featured Replies

Hi I have a normal green Recessive pied male bird and would like to know what would be the best mate for him to improve in size an colour. He is a yellow bird with black markings on the wings and light green on his rump and chest.I would like to try and get some nice colours like him or something a bit different.

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you

Well to get the same thing as him you have to pair him a recessove pied but that will probably not improve on the size since recessive pieds tend to be on the smaller size from what I understand. I know there will be more experts on in a couple hours.

Let me ask you are you breeding for show? or for pet quality?

I am going to move this topic to breeding tips since you are not asking what the mutation of your bird is. If it needs to be moved to show breeding then another mod may move it.

To breed the size up you need to breed your recessive pied to the best normal you can find. The biggest and best. If its a large normal that is also split for recessive pied thats even better :D

If the mate that you choose in not a recessive pied or split to recessive pied then there won't be any recessive pieds among the chicks. If you are breeding show birds then you'd need to be sure that you select a bird with plenty of size and show qualities, otherwise just choose a hen that you like
