Crystal was happy sitting on her first clutch of three eggs for about 2 weeks. i discovered today the three eggs on the cage floor. they seemed empty. did she kick them out and why? or did another bird? we have 3 pairs in the cage plus 4 quails. so disappointing. another female laid one egg today in the adjoining box. please help with any suggetsions

Try and remove a single pair of budgies to a seperate cage for breeding, and then you wont have others interfering with nestboxes. ANYTHING can have happened here...the hen could have thrown them out or another hen most likely did go in the nestbox to claim it as her own...it happens a lot, What size space are your birds in with the nestboxes and quails ?

1m wide x 2m tall x 3 m wide. we decided today to make a seperate breeding cage on the weekend. there are 2 x 2boxes, plus 1 single. the one that laid an egg today is right next to the one that had three eggs ejected.

Sounds like interfering hens Are they of breeding age ( over 12 months old )- as sometimes young birds can be a problem when coloney breeding - they are suck nosiey little things

- Kaz has given you great advice!!!

here is a ARTICLE IN THE FAQ'S ABOUT COLONY BREEDING Vs CLOSED BREEDING It's worth a read
