Very nice Chrissy thank you for sharing this with us, they are so precious :D

:D ...

Thanks for sharing, It is a awesome sight to see this little jelly beans grow ;)

How can you tell the colours when they are soo tiny!?

How can you tell the colours when they are soo tiny!?

I have no clue but there are some people on this board who are amazing and can tell you around day 7 onwards what you are going to have!

Very clue jellybeans, can't wait to see them fully feathered.

Cute post. It's amazing how quickly they grow and develop isnt it. ^_^

Pieds are the easiest to tell as they get patches all over them where there's pigmentation and no pigmentation, like on it's wings where it's dark then totaly clear.

Spangles have a clear two middle tail feathers, Opalines have a clear white down(can be confused with smoggy white to the untrained eye but are not the same birds)... Cinnamons have plum eyes as do DF spangles, and recessive pied .... You just kind of get used to it and know to pick out traits and do guess work on the parents, but sometimes you have flukes...

E.g. my split for ino cock who produced a red eyed chick, we presumed ino until it started developping cheek patches and gave me a gorgoeus little fallow ^_^

Crazyness! I look forward to learning about it all.

They are very cute babies

Gorgeous photo's

P.S. you appear to have a pied ;)

Yes I think you are right LIbby def. pied... the mum is dom pied (dad is opaline)... if you look at his head you can see (more so today) the clear patch on the back of his head too. :D

From what I'm told this might be a little boy dom pied split for opaline because if it was a girl it would be either opaline or opaline dom pied? Does anyone agree with that?

you had the name wrong Elly instead of Libby

This is all the same chick... three hatched but the other two died (one at about 2 days old and the other at about 9 days old). ??? Not sure it its a dominate pied opaline or a dominate pied split for opaline???

Yes, she is a good cat, great temperment. She was sitting there watching me handle the bird and take the pics and I set the bird next to her and she just looked at it didn't even move until I started to push the issue and put Bubba on her head.... lol! :D

Sorry you lost your others

This one would be dominant pied split for opaline - male

Yes, this chick and another hatched out together on the same day. A few days later a third hatched but that chick died less than two days later. After that chick died the others still pushed forward, but the other chick just seemed to stop growing and developing. No feathers, half the size of the other one. The mother was feeding it (it had food in it's crop when I found it dead), but for some reason it just died. There must have been something wrong with it. But yes, this chick has made it. I found myself calling him Bubba each time I went to check him and hold him, so it has kind of stuck. I was hoping it was a boy so I can keep the name Bubba.... so thanks for letting me know. I knew it was pied, but wasn't sure yet if it was a boy. Thank you.

This cat would let you hang it out a window upside down if you wanted. She is wonderful. She's 9 years old now and tolerates two toddlers, a jack russell dog, along with her sister (my other cat)... she's wonderful. I was careful, but she was fine about it. The more I pushed the issue (like putting the bird on her head) then she said "the heck with this" and she just jumped off the couch and sat on the floor and looked at me. She's wonderful. I love my pets and I think they know that and that's why they are so good.

I am not 100% sure on male, but genetically it should be a male

That's what I thought. I posted the question on the genetics forum and it said something like that... if it was pied it would be a boy... if it was opaline it would be a girl??? The only question now is.... is it pied slpit for opaline or is it a pied opaline??? Neville mentioned something like that but I didn't get an answer to explain that to me yet.

Are the parents "split" to anything???

When i work out the pairing Hens will be Opaline and cocks will be Pied / Opaline

( now I am not Gene expert, but if I am wrong can you explain it for me please)

If it is in fact a Opaline dom pied I can't wait to see the pics, they aren't that common in my neck of the woods

But I want this one

Unfortunately I don't know any history on the parents, they were both pet store "rescues" (as I like to call them). So I'm not sure what mum and dad are besides the visible mutations. If this is what an Opaline Dominant Pied looks like, I loved to have one too!! :) IF is is an ODP would it be male or female?

What is it about the photo that makes it look altered?
