Hen No 6 ------- Paired to ------- Offspring 3 Cock

Offspring No 7

=========

Cock 2 mated with hen 1 produces group 3

Cock 2 mated with hen 4 produces group 5

Cock from group 3 mated to hen 6 produces group 7

My question is whether we can pair as follows:

Cock/hen from group 5 to hen/cock from group 7

Cock 2 mated to hen from group 7

Appreciate all of your help. Thanks :D

Thanks Kaz :D, looks like same article is also available in our FAQ section. In deed I have gone through this FAQ article and got confused, so only I have posted this topic.

But now I have taken more time/efforts to understand this and below is my complete understanding on this, please correct me if I am wrong.

Possible Acceptable Pairing Combinations from the above link are:

* Half Brother to Half Sister,

* Grand Father to Grand Daughter,

* Uncle to Niece,

* Aunt to Nephew, and

* Cousin to Cousin.

So now coming back to my posted questions:

My question is whether we can pair as follows:

Cock/hen from group 5 to hen/cock from group 7

This is pairing of Uncle/Aunt to Niece/Nephew, which is acceptable.

Cock 2 mated to hen from group 7

This is Grand Father to Grand Daughter, which is also acceptable pairing.

If my above understanding is totally correct, then really my hats off to you Kaz for making me to understand/learn this. ^_^

It looks like you are trying to breed the trait of bird 2 (must be a super bird) into your stock. This is a good way to go about it providing the pairings dont double up on faults.

Karthik, I currently have paired up a hen who was the foundation bird for some very nice birds in a top breeders aviary..............paired up with her grandson. Its the first tiem I have tried this, and may never have gotten around to trying this....BUT the two of them paired up in a holding cage and everything about them was right. The original breeder told me to go for it and that it would be a very good match. Time will tell how any chicks turn out.

Just for the interest in line breeding...I would not breed brother to sister, father to daughter, mother to son. I believe it is TOO CLOSE.

I have no experience with line breeding and it will be great if you can tell me how to check for faults in a bird if any?
