Posted September 22, 200816 yr okay there is 2 hours to go before i take Memphis and Phoenix to the vets I am concerned buy yet happy that i will get some answers Here are the links to the stories http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=22005&hl= http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=22112&hl= No i have concentrated on Memphis ( grey Dom pied cock ) but now i have a gut feeling that it could be a main concern for Phoneix The Spangle - I shouldn't read so much LOL ... But I have my history all written down for the vet included in that is what meds they have been given and dates of when things were noticed - I am requesting a blood test to rule of BFD or PBFD ... So i will post what the vets said and what tests were carried out when i get back ... Does anyone know of anything i should ask? So i don't forget ??? Edited September 22, 200816 yr by KAZ
September 23, 200816 yr Author Yep well that was a waste of time The avian vet had to go and i was re booked with a NORMAL VET !!!!! But at least she didn't say it is this or that - she just re scheduled another appointment But I have it with Dr James Gill James Gill, Has been an Aviculturist for over 30 years, a veterinary surgeon for 23 years and at the same time been heavily involved in cage and aviary bird medicine. He is a member of the Australian college of veterinary scientists(Avian health). A past president of the Avicultrual society of N.S.W and has lectured at such places like the Australian federation conventions and the association of Avian Veterinarians Convention. So next Saturday i will know
September 23, 200816 yr What a disappointment mate. About time the vets paid attention to your needs and recognise that when you want to see the avian vet, thats what you get or you get rebooked. Save you a wasted trip
September 23, 200816 yr See that would annoy me. One of the reasons I changed my vets (that and you compare travel time from 30 mins each way to 5 min walking) was that they knew I was coming down there with a bird however in most cases I did not see the avairn vet but one of the other vets who know birds but are not trained in birds.
September 23, 200816 yr Author Yeah I was P%$$ed big time ... But good news is Quill mites are treated with Ivermerc too So waiting time till then - I think that it is a REALLY heavy molt But I want to be 100% certain as these will be the beginnings of my Show stock. There are too many "symptoms" for me to actually say what it is so Id rather let the experts tell me
September 23, 200816 yr Oh what a bummer, but that is good that quill mites can be treated fairly easy.
September 24, 200816 yr Author Yeah, so the vet said I will mate to see what the Avain vet says too .... I'd like to know HOW they get quill mites though - All in all , another waiting game - This hobby is testing me big time ... I started out as a person that was the most impatient person that anyone would meet - Now OMG I have patience lmao I am praying that it is seasonal molt - In saying that I will look like a fool . But a fool that cares none the less
October 4, 200816 yr Author I just got back from the vet .... The minute the vet looked at them he said they aren't well ... Which then bought on the water works ... he took the spangle out and game him a good look over did a feces smear Poo smear was clear .... He said he was light - The Pied on the other hand, is missing flights on the other wing there are only 5 with no new growths coming back. The other flights are messed up and he keeps breaking blood fathers ... The tail feathers aren't gowning back fully, There was no evidence of quill mites and the poo smear came back clear as well ... Not just a seasonal molt
October 4, 200816 yr Author Verdict is They are no Good for my " stud " ... I am looking more into it to see if there is something that I can do , But the breeder that i got them from said if there is anything wrong with them He will take them back - Which is good thing
October 4, 200816 yr Verdict is They are no Good for my " stud " ... I am looking more into it to see if there is something that I can do , But the breeder that i got them from said if there is anything wrong with them He will take them back - Which is good thing I don't know that I would want to give them back knowing they are sit. Two sick birds amoung maybe hundreds... do you really think the breeder will focus his attention enough to help them get better? I know you spend money for a good healthy bird and if that's not what you get then you should get what you paid for... but I don't know that I could give a bird back knowing it was sick and may be left to just die? Is this a good breeder you've purchased from before? Do you know that he will give them the health attention they need? Did you find out exactly what's wrong with them? Is it something that you can treat or too serious that you will probably lose them anyway? I feel for ya Neat. I hate seeing them ill or death upon them.
October 4, 200816 yr Author Yep he is mate ... I said the first time here that I thought it was, to then be backed up by a show breeder and then confirmed with the Vet ....
October 4, 200816 yr Yep he is mate ... I said the first time here that I thought it was, to then be backed up by a show breeder and then confirmed with the Vet .... I think the breeder would know that too Neat and maybe was hoping you wouldnt notice
October 4, 200816 yr Author Yes, That is what has crossed my mind - But i asked 3 members that night what would they choose and why and they said that one ... I am feeling like i can't trust them now ...
October 4, 200816 yr Yes, That is what has crossed my mind - But i asked 3 members that night what would they choose and why and they said that one ...I am feeling like i can't trust them now ... Noone actually looked close enough Neat. He looked good but was not closely inspected. Often at time like that there is a little race to be the first to say...I want him and here's the money. If he was a hundred dollar bird he would have been more closely inspected to see if he was worth it and if he had all his feathers and bits n pieces
October 4, 200816 yr Author Yep that is HOW IT WAS!!!!! okay well another lesson learnt ... Inspect birds fully!!! even if they are $10 ones Oh Elly yes Nutritional Deficiency? Chrissy The breeder that I got them from was selling for a breeder down the coast ... I like the breeder ( not the one down the coast) as he keeps all his birds even past their breeding date to live their lives out in the flights ... So he has heart and has taught me alot ... I will be meeting up with a few members and breeders at the Auction next weekend and they are going to walk me through things ... Edited October 4, 200816 yr by Neat added more
October 4, 200816 yr Sorry to hear your news Neat. I hope you do well at the Auction. As a friend of mine constantly says, "buyer beware". I have also learnt alot from my auction experience too, though so far, fortunately, most of the birds we have bought are going down and I have had a couple of results so far *hugs* Mind you, I have a couple of cocks who, so far, seem to be useless as far as breeding goes. They looked great in a show box on the day, but you always have to wonder why a bird is being sold
October 5, 200816 yr Author Thank so much sunnie... It was rather disappointing ... And not the best whay to start my o called "stud" But Yes that is always in my mind ... WHY .... But I am now aware of what to look for ans will ask to inspect birds prior to handing money over .... So..... I am looking at Detoxing, and building up their immune systems and adding natural anti oxidants to these birds. So I am going to be doing a few little experiments with them and see if I can see results ... ( no I am not going to butcher or give meds to these birds.. I am a person that believes in natural things, So i will got the the main source and that is Mother Nature ) :what:
October 5, 200816 yr To the breeders credit there wasn't any noticeable signs that the bird had anything wrong with it, it only started showing signs of illness a few days after neat got him. With the offer of him taking the bird back he has a aviary that he keeps his birds in that are for "non breeding " so i know the bird will get a good life where ever he goes. I trust the breeder he seems to be genuine and i am sure neat will buy from him again too. Edited October 5, 200816 yr by Neat typo
October 5, 200816 yr Author Agree ..... He is an 08 bird and was just molting ..... Ah well them's the breaks
