I've been reading the FAQ section on alot of topics today and I was wondering if there is a section (and maybe I just can't find it) on the development of the baby budgie. I see all the info on the egg development, incubation, and things to check for once the chick is hatched but I don't see a section on "What to Expect Next". Kind of like being a new mom and they give you a book that tells you at "0-2 weeks old expect this... " at 6-9 months expect this....". Is there a section on there that tells you what to expect at each stage of development. Like at what age do they open their eyes, what age do they first eat on their own, what age do they get their feathers, do all babies start off with white feathers and if so at what age do their true color or markings start to show???? I think something like this would be helpful, not only is it good to know but it's helpful if you have a chick and want to see if the development appears to be "on track". My chick is 10 days old now and more and more is happening every time I look at it... just like to know what to watch for next.... Anyone??? Thanks

Thanks for this Neat, it was a big help and basically what I was looking for. I saw another post on that link that said something about showing both show and pet type pics... did anything come of that??? Is there a difference on how they develope or just their weights since show budgies are so much larger than pet budgies.

 

Also some questions that didn't get answered are....

 

Although their eyes open from 1st to 5th day can they see ? My babies eyes didn't open until at least the 7th or 8th day?

 

Also, if you baby isn't at these stages as suggested does that suggest there are problems? My baby is 10 days old now and he is just now starting to hold up his head and I don't think his tail feathers are in yet????

My babies eyes dont open for over a week either. I might take a few pics of a baby I have in the nest now- if they come out okay I'll try to document it. Remind me!!

No mate, Like i said it is just a guide line!!!!! So don't go by it from Exact dates and etc it is just a rough guide to show you what is coming up - the dates could be off by 1 - 4 days which is a pain i know .. Sorry I try my best :hap:

I haven't yet started breeding with Shows, but i will be making records so that there are a milestone for them too, I would think

that there could be too much difference apart from size and weight HOWEVER - they are surprising little buggers

Actually I was also looking for this during the time when I have joined here and after doing some search in google, I was able to get this link alone. Yes it is not in depth, but nice one with pictures. Also very few other articles are available on this site, which are simple and nice once.

 

My personal understanding is that chicks will open its eyes fully during there 2nd week.
