September 23, 200816 yr Author okay this morning things have changed again , her droppings have changed again . Her mood has gone back to agressive and I have now taken the main mirror out and after some 30 minutes her mood has changed back again to somewhat normal . Just noticed the leg holding up thing again , Ive got an app to see the vet today and will go from there . Here are some pics of her cage and droppings from today . Cheers .
September 24, 200816 yr okay firstly i would like to say I her perches what a great idea!!!!!!! I Noticed how she has Gnawed the heck out of the middle stick - okay when you are at the vets, ask for more information re: Heavy metal posioning ... She is showing alot of signs that indicate this - increased thirst and urination, weightloss, green (and she had bloody diarrhea whist at the vets). She has a copper bell, and is in a Galvanised cage - As she is a hen she is more likely to chew / gnaw on the cage I understand that an antibiotic was given what that should be given after the particles are removed, An xray can confirm that and if they are obstructing they can obstruct her insides cause her problems that look like others .....
September 24, 200816 yr Author Ive returned from the vet's where they have taken a swab of her dropping and have confirmed she still has Stafflacosis . Vet has given me a different antibiotic to try and also introduce a pro biotic into her water . He believes my bird has major internal issue's ( kidney's ) and the next step is full blood test's and an a Xray . Still saying that he thinks my bird's outcome might not look too promising . Yes we discussed heavy metal issue's at the start , while she was in the hospital I gave the cage a huge clean . maybe I should buy her a new cage ? The vet has inspected the cage and he said he's happy with the condition of it . Overnight one of her feet has started to bleed and sore's have appeared again on one foot again so I'm going to wrapp her perche's again with the Vet wrapp bandage . They have only been unwrapped for about 4 weeks. I have a feeling it was the new main perch with all the bark on it that's been too much for her , I'll sand the bark off and wrapp . I'll leave the one small chewing bark one there for her to de bark I have to go back next week and till then I'll keep an eye on her , she's gone from savage this morning to extremly friendly to savage again just in that short amount of time . She's chirping and singing which I feel is good . Cheers
September 24, 200816 yr Author She only has sore's on one foot which is one that has never had full movement since she was little . Turn's out she's been lifting the good one that has no sore's . okay today her droppings have returned to more of a normal looking state with less clear liquid , her mood is good and super friendly again . Ive sanded down her upper perch and wrapped it . Ive just had her sitting on my hand, all was good then she started to lift her good leg then started to bite me hard . I reckon's she's in pain with that leg ? The vet did say he felt her joints were stiff and she might have gout or arthritis as well .
September 24, 200816 yr Wow, She is a little battler isn't she I was thinking along the lines of gout or etc with her foot ( just reading over all your posts) So nothing else was said - With the vet thinking that she has major issues inside esp with the kidneys ( that is another side affect ) I am no vet but for the last 4 - 6 months I have been doing nothing but research research and research on Health issues ...... So I will stop advising and just hope that you get some answers all the best mate for you and Fluffy
September 29, 200816 yr Author My bird is not getting a lot better on the new medication and I'll will take back to the vets this week to get the blood sample's taken & xray . She's still lively alert , playfull etc but still biting , so she' just not 100 % Her droppings are inconsistant one day not bad then one in a day might be very watery , noticed she's still lifting her good leg every so often - so if this is gout or arthritis in this leg is there anything that can be done ? The vet said a all vegie type diet if it is gout , that's going to be hard as my bird is not big on the vegie's , if it's arthritis can anything be done for this ? I don't like to see her in pain . Cheers Toohp
September 29, 200816 yr Stay clear of corn then ... Try with the veggies, it is fantastic for them ... As for the Arthritis you can use the following food and help in the relief of the pain and flare ups Best anti-inflammatory foods / supplements: * Pineapple contains an anti-inflammatory enzyme called bromelain. Bromelain soothes your cells by reducing the migration of white blood cells to sites of inflammation, such as sunburned skin, injured muscles and arthritic joints. * Apricots and berries contain large amounts of antioxidants, which reduce inflammation. * Cherries are rich in anthocyanins known to suppress the production of inflammation-related issues. . Note: Excessive cherry consumption causes diarrhea in some individuals. * Almonds contain fiber, vitamin E and monounsaturated fats - also curb inflammation. * Omega-3s. These inflammation-fighting essential fatty acids are mainly found in cold-water fish, such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines. or one to three tablespoons daily of flaxseed oil. o Cod Liver Oil - Cod liver oil is an anti-inflammatory, and research suggests that it might limit cartilage damage caused by osteoarthritis. Cod-liver oil is also rich in vitamin D. People who consume diets rich in vitamin D have been shown to be less likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis. * Vitamin K & Leafy Green * Ginger. A study of 250 patients at the University of Miami School of Medicine found that ginger, taken twice daily, was as effective as prescription and over-the-counter drugs at controlling arthritis pain. * Cayenne: An overall digestive aid containing liberal amounts of Vitamins A, C, B-complex, calcium, phosphorous and iron. It is anti-inflammatory and helps arthritic conditions. Uses of Cayenne Powder as the same affect I FOUND THIS INFO FROM A CLINIC STUDY IN HUMANS Cinnamon & Honey: "Take one part honey to two parts of lukewarm water and add a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder, make a paste and massage it on the itching part of the body slowly. It is noticed that the pain recedes within a minute or two. Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted 1657 at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week out of the 200 people so treated practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain." So the Cinnamon and Honey could work for birds too .....
September 29, 200816 yr I have heard great things about honey, as for cherries I believe the fruit is okay but the seed don't let them pick at it because Cherry pits are known to have natural cianide and I have read that in different articles that is why the branches are on the unsafe list on some forums.
September 30, 200816 yr Author Today - My bird's temperament is fantastic just like my bird of old , happy playfull , super friendly , singing etc etc but some of the poop's are nearly clear liquid or a milky substance . Today's pretty much the last of her medication , see how she goes in the next few day's ? Cheers
