Posted September 16, 200816 yr So a week ago, I re-paired Raine (my SB YF2 Greywing spilt to recessive cock) with Pearl (my Mauve/Grey Opaline hen). The poor girl is doing everything she can to get his attention and he wants no part of her. She screams her head off, paces back and forth non-stop, and jumps from perch to perch in front of the nest box, but he just sits there (most of the time with his back to her). This girl is ready to roll and I don't know what I can do to encourage him to take interest. He is the mate to the female that had the 5 eggs that were no good. Is he too attached to her still? How long will it take for him to warm up to her? Is there a chance he won't bond with her at all? Is there anything I can do to help her get his attention?
September 16, 200816 yr I'm sorry Chrissy I have no idea, but I'm interested to hear the answer if someone has one as I'm having this same problem with a cock who I am desperate to breed but just sits there looking disinterested
September 16, 200816 yr Put them in a decent size flight cage/aviary with an extra boy who IS interested and see if the first cock rises to the challenge and either one gets interested or doesnt want to know. Either way, problem solved...one or other will win the damsels heart
September 16, 200816 yr In my case atleast he has been in an aviary and just sits there looking disinterested in there too , I really want some chicks from him though, so much so that I've considered AI even, wish TB was still around...
September 16, 200816 yr Author They are in a good size cage (24"x 48"x 16"). But my problem is I don't have any "extra" males. I'm already short one male. And I too would like to get some offspring from this particular male. So that being said, is there any other suggestions??? Â Let me ask this too... his old mate is in another cage, he cannot see her, but he can still hear her, is the fact that he can still hear her playing a role in any of this???

okay since I live in USA (Pennsylvania) tempatures here don't allow me to have an outdoor avairy it's only September and it was 46 degrees here this morning.... anyway my point is my aviary is in my home in my living room. I live in a small cape code and no matter where you are in my house you can hear the birds.... so I have no where I could put here to get her out of ear shot??? So I'm 0 for 2 now.... I guess the only other thing to do is wait it out?? Until he realizes that this hen he's with is only option if he wants to "get busy"???
September 16, 200816 yr Author A radio / music near either the other hen or the new pair would help. Does the TV count????Try boosting the iodine levels in their water: 4 drops per litre for 5 days. Can this be done through the use of the multi-vits or do I need to get iodine drops? And these drops are to help "stimulate" the male???
