Dave is the white one.

Went Dave saw the vet three weeks ago he said that tail poof meant he wasn't well. But in the last three weeks I see he always does this. He eats a lot, plays a lot, and has a clean vent. He acts healthy. I'm starting to wonder if it means something else.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for reading. I do love my budgies.

Summer, if you mean by tail poof that he drops his tail: Don't worry!

Some birds do and it is definitely NOT a sign of illness.

Its called a hinged tail and is a posture thing. It can also be just that this particular bird stands like that to counterbalance the wing clip.

What you are calling "tail poof" ? perhaps you are meaning tail bobbing actions. If the bird is breathing hard and the tail is pumping back and forth ( tail bobbing ) then its a sign of ill health. I dont think your bird is tail bobbing.

He is very young too, I find that alot of my babies do this or a little while until they learn to perch really well.

Darn it. I lost my post.

The short version. Thanks for confirming it can be normal. I think it's pretty cute but of course I'm completely charmed by him.

Thanks again.

I've noticed - Just the last couple of days that when a bird is stressed / Unsure they will sit like that as well ...

Tail tucked under ...

I agree with the everyone else unless is to pumping up and down along with breathing noises or difficulties it is NORMAL

I also find that birds that have clipped wings may tend to do it more for balance too, Pretty had a hinged tail like that too. Also they tend to do it more when they are in a fearful stage because they tend to tuck, I have experience that.

The vet you went to was he an avian vet or a dog/cat bet a lot of them don't know what they are talking about when it comes to birds. (I have learned that one from experience)
