Frisky Teenage Behaviour

Hi there, okay then...my house budgie Oliver is being nasty and biting. He's also trying to mount everything that moves and even things that don't. He used to be friendly and loving and just adore being with someone or talking up a storm. Now no one wants to spend any time with him as all he does is bite. What can I do to get the friendly Oliver back or is this just a stage all bugies go through? If it is how long will it last? He is now 7 months old. I don't want to resort to getting him a friend as I want him to spend time with us.

Thanks ;)

Budgies tend to get "issues" when moulting. Is he moulting by any chance?

Also, how much sleep is he getting? Too many light hours can cause an increase in hormones.

He sounds hormonal to me....moulting time..."puberty" ;)

The best way to get the hormones under control is to ensure they have 12-14 hours of covered cage time for at least a week that should settle him and then you always make sure 10-12 hours of cover time after that. That keeps Merlin very much in check and keeping it consistent. Also if you have running water such as a fish tank don't have it by your budgies because it mimics natures way of telling bird that things are florishing, spring is here. Also rearrange any toys or take them out that he has gotten attached too and reintroduce in a couple weeks. Let us know how it goes.

Oliver gets covered between 6.30-7.30pm to 6.30-7.30am so he's getting enough cover time.

I've just removed his favourite toy, it's a ferris wheel type with plastic balls with bells inside. I have noticed he gets very intense with anything shiny so I have learnt to remove bells and things. But I didn't think the little bells in the balls would make a difference, maybe I'm wrong in thinking that.

I did notice a couple of weeks ago that he had head pin feathers but I can't see them anymore, does this mean he's finished his moult otherwise how long does moulting last? I've included some photos as I can't tell if he's still moulting or not.

Thanks

He is a handsome boy

I would try covering him at 5pm through to 7am and see if that helps.

Also when he is covered is it dark and quiet in his cage. he might be covered but still wide awake.

I done a post on puberty  ..

Which is what he is going through the sexual behavior the aggression yep he is becoming a man
