Posted September 15, 200816 yr Hi everyone, I'm new here. My name is Jess and I live in country NSW close to Canberra. We have our name down to rescue a cockatoo which will be a suprise for my Dad. Dad has owned exotic birds in the past and has ALWAYS wanted a cockatoo, I unfortunately have little experience with birds. Cocky will eventually have an avairy to call home but I was wondering if someone would be able to suggest a temporary cage for him? He will be out most of the time, he will only be in the cage to sleep. Cocky is 39 years old and has (as I call it) no pants on. He apparently had a liver problem which caused him to lose his feathers from the waist down, I don't know how much truth there is in that statement though. Thank you! We are excited about the possibility of Cocky coming home with us and your help is greatly appreciated
September 15, 200816 yr Hello and welcome We are a specialised budgie forum, but there are a number of members here who have cockatoos and should be able to answer your question Cocky sounds lovely, even without "pants" - perhaps someone can knit him some
September 15, 200816 yr I would be getting im the biggest indoor cage you possibly can, don't be suckered in by those tiny little things they call cocky cages at the pet shops, they are just too small. A 'patio aviary (like a large bird cage on wheels normally) is a perfect night cage for a cocky Welcome
September 16, 200816 yr Welcome, as Liv said we really specialize in budgies and we are not approved as stated on the top of this forum "Topics regarding health and support etc. of other animals besides budgies will be removed. However, feel free to post about your other pets with images etc" I think the best thing you can do is search for a forum dedicated to cockatoo's since they are so different then budgies in terms of size, need, food, health etc... Here is one I found that you can check into http://www.cockatoohome.com/. Edited September 16, 200816 yr by Elly
September 16, 200816 yr Forum membe "B_ird C_razy" has a forum dedicated to the cockatoo ----- > HERE
September 16, 200816 yr Author Excellent, thanks Liv, I didn't realize that Thanks for your help!! I'll look at the aussie too's site!! Good luck with the Budgies, if we get Cocky I'll be sure to pop back with a photo of him with his "no pants"
