You have not answered about which hen you are trying to breed...the one too young that you were advised not to breed ?

 

A cere can turn brown at 3 months of age ...

it is NO INDICATION of old enough to breed.

i am trying to breed the older one however with the newly purchased hen i was told when i bought her that she was an adult about a year old but i do not exactly trust if this guy had told me her true age but i do know that he had a seperate cage with the baby budgies and the adult budgies, without knowing her exact age is hard

Cynthz..........you have been told by us....a great many budgie experts here this bird is too young for you to be breeding it. ESPECIALLY as you did not even quarantine the bird either which adds stresses and illnesses. You also said you would remove the nestbox and you havent. You are now trying to find out how to breed the bird and you are getting excited about the pairing. Time you listened to good advice.

does not mean she should be bred just by her cere colour

Totally agree with Kaz, very young bird indeed!

Cynthz this bird is too young to be breeding, think of it this way...

 

How old are you?

 

What age did you hit puberty?

 

Would you have been ready to have a baby at that age?

 

Just because our bodies provide the right hormones to say we can have a baby doesn't mean our bone structure is developed enough or that we are emotionally developed enough. Essentially by breeding too young you are asking a baby budgie to have babies and that is likely to end badly

I agree with everything said here, I am not a breeder so it doesn't make me an expert but when put in terms like MB did, it makes true sense, I do hope you agree and take the time to research breeding first until your birds of approriate age.

IT IS CRUEL TO BREED BUDGIES UNDER THE MATURE AGE! YOU ARE DEPRIVING THEM OF GROWING AND NUTRIENTS !!!
