September 11, 200816 yr It can be a sign of a few things. There can be Kidney and/or liver issues it could be the type of water they are drinking, it could be bactiria build up in the gut, it would be a bunch of things. it could also be they are not eating enough or eating to much of one type of seed like Diarrhoea effects humans.
September 11, 200816 yr Spot on AV .... I will add that stress can too Whats the color Deb? * secretly Happy that there is an other poo question :hap: Edited September 11, 200816 yr by Neat
September 11, 200816 yr Author They are clear and watery which means i have properly done the wrong thing. Roxy still prefers her soft mix, she will eat a liitle bit of seed and vegies during the day but she know she gets her young rearing mix at night so she paces her cage at 5 pm waiting for it and then eats for 1/2 hour pigging out till her crop is bulging. I thought i would just stop offering it to her and hope they she would learn that she has to eat the seed and vegies because there is nothing else. Today i have noticed her poos have gone watery and her keel bone is sharp. I was not doing it to be mean to her, i would never do anything to deliberetly hurt Roxy, i have tried everything else to get her off the soft food but nothing works.
September 11, 200816 yr Why not just put a small amount of soft food so that it will sustain her but she will still be hungry. Might be best to put her back on it fully for a ccouple of weeks to get a bit of weight back on her firt though. Don't forget babies at Roxies age do loose a bit of weight naturally though as well so don't feel too bad as it is naturally a tough time for them
September 11, 200816 yr okay ...So you are weaning Roxy? And she is BOYCOTTING ???---- Good Idea MB - ----Deb - We know that you wouldn't do anything to harm Roxy !!!!!!!You have done everything that members have told you , and she stilldoesn't want to let go eh?Have you asked an Avian vet?? To see what they think?
September 11, 200816 yr Author I have been trying to wean Roxy for weeks now, she will eat seed and vegies but not enough it seems to stop the soft food. I only make up a couple of tablespoons of young bird rearing food mixed with warm water at night for her. I have not talk to a avian vet because i feel she is healthy but just very attached to her soft food. Lucy my 2 year old will not go to bed without her teddy and Roxy is similar she will not go to sleep unless she has had her soft food. Would it hurt her to have a liitle bit of rearing food at night for the rest of her life?
September 11, 200816 yr I would reduce the amount and also mix seed into it if you reduce the amount so very slowely over a few months then you should be fine.
September 11, 200816 yr Author I would reduce the amount and also mix seed into it if you reduce the amount so very slowely over a few months then you should be fine. I have been trying that but she picks the soft stuff out and leaves the seed behind which is weird because she eats the seed when it is by itself and eats the millet spray.
September 11, 200816 yr Well that sucks... have to tried to make seed mush? has the same consistence as the hand raising mix just made from seeds. Also have you tied her on baby food?
September 11, 200816 yr Author I have tried soaked seed and she will not touch it and have tried mashed egg with vegies and does not like it either.
September 11, 200816 yr What sort of rearing food is it Deb? I get a soft food mix from Vetafarm which is designed for adult birds as a breeding supplement so maybe something like that might be a better option than a true rearing mix
September 11, 200816 yr Author It is from Vetafarm and it is called Nest Mate Budgerigar and Young Bird Rearing food, it says it is meant for breeding birds and weanlings. I weaned her onto it from the handraising mix when i got her to start feeding herself.
September 11, 200816 yr Deb I think you have a Soft food Junkie on your hands - I honestly do not see any issues with her having a lite suppa before bed of night -But it makes more work for you .... See what the others thinks - When i said the vet it wasn't for her health mate I thought they should have a few ideas I wish you luck
September 11, 200816 yr Well I have a budgie on strike too.... Have you tried millet sprays Deb, most budgies can't seem to resist them and if you can get her going that route maybe she will get more interested in seed. Also do you have a "mentor" bird that she can hang out with during the day a lot of times if they see another bird chowing on seed they will pick up the habit much more quicker.
