Posted September 10, 200816 yr I am so excited. I am leaving the kids with my mum and dragging my hubby to my first club meeting :budgiedance: I have met a number of the members and they are lovely, (encouraging) people so i am really really excited. I don't get out much at night so going to a budgie club meeting with my hubby is like the ultimate date!!! well, i will like it.... not sure about him hehehe I believe i am not the only one from BBC going tonight Edited September 10, 200816 yr by **Liv**
September 10, 200816 yr Have a great time Liv. PS pack a small cage in the car and take "budgie money" ...often there are "for sale" birds at meetings :budgiedance:
September 10, 200816 yr Author Thanks Kaz! I am not in need of new birds at the moment, but they are famous last words so i wont even bother saying i wont buy anything :budgiedance: I will pack my travel case just incase.
September 10, 200816 yr Sounds like fun! I hope you have a great night and your hubby enjoys himself too! I can't wait to hear all about it and see your new birds :budgiedance:
September 10, 200816 yr Author It was great fun and OMG they are all just as informative and supportive as i thought they would be. I also got to meet the lovely bbc member, Charlie2479, there too We are their first new members in around 8 months and they hey swamped us like budgies to gum tree branches They had a guest speaker there going though the nutritional needs of breeding budgies - very interesting, but nothing i didn't already know hehehe. BBC has thought me more than i can imagine One thing i did find highly interesting is there is a member who told a story about his futile battle with french moult (FM) One year when he thought all was lost he started feeding 2 parts seed to 1 part budgie starter every day to the breeding birds. He claims that he has never experienced a FM chick since. Budgie starter could be a preventative method for FM It was a great night and we felt more than welcome with many members inviting us to visit their homes and come to all their social meetings - They are a very warm and friendly group and i am really happy to be a member of NEBS ps. no budgies for sale, but they do a small show each meeting to let members get a feel for it and help the birds get used to the show process - there were some gorgeous unbroken caps and I am starting to think i want to specialise in dominant pieds Edited September 10, 200816 yr by **Liv** added more
September 10, 200816 yr Meetings can be fun. I know I go and every time I walk away I sit there and say Oh i want to breed.... (insert different mutation) Glad you had alot of fun
September 11, 200816 yr Great to hear about your first meeting at NEBS. One of the ladies I meet with for lunch monthly is a member at NEBS and I have bought some lovely TCB's from her. Next month, seek out Vicki and tell her you know me. She is a lovely person and very willing to share her knowledge. I am going to the BBC meeting tomorrow night and I am going to join BSSA next meeting, which is either this or next Monday, I'm not quite sure.
September 11, 200816 yr Hey Liv it was great to finally meet you and I agree a good nite all around, they did seem to be happy to have some new blood join up and happy to share their knoweledge, I am sure that we will both be able to learn alot and I can't believe after not being able to find any breeders near me that I have 2 just about on my door step I think I might need to build a bigger aviary
September 11, 200816 yr Hi, Yep I am also a fairly new club member at ED in Vic and I'm loving it, and I think its great for the hobby, I had bred budgies before but just pet types and I figured if I was doing that, I might aswell join a club and try and breed some show birds. Best thing I have ever done, although I have not even had the guts to take a bird to a club meeting yet, now that some of my chick are fledging it won't be to long before I do. Part of me is excited to take a self bred bird and a part of me is scared I will make a fool of myself :hap: , but I do know they're only there to help and you do have to start somewhere. Anyway enjoy your club, I know I do.
