How To 'start' A Compost Bin?

Featured Replies

Posted

I bought myself a large compost bin last week but I'm not sure how to get it started. I've been told I need to add other stuff to it before I start adding vegies, does anyone have a sure fire way to get it going properly?

Layer newspaper and pea straw... you water it a little (I think leave it for a bit) and then start adding your veggies, egg shells, tea bags etc... Don't quote me on that and I'm not sure on timing etc... ;)

Here you go I remember seeing the show a while back ;)

BUILDING COMPOST PILES < --- Here

Also remember that it works faster in the sun and slower in the shade :(

Lime can get rid of nasty smells too :o

Yes I remember Lime too my mother had one going, the cool thing about it is once it is going it is neat to turn it over and see the steam come out of it.

I bet it would be NEAT to see :)

My neighbour has chickens so they are going to give me some of their dirty straw next time they clean out the coop for the bin :hap:
