September 9, 200816 yr Yes, Merlin and Pretty both talked. I have a video of Pretty talking on the forum and Merlin does talk but I have yet to get him on video. The best thing you can do is not waste your money and do it yourself he will repeat what he hears over and over the easiest words are pretty, sweet, baby those are ones you can start with.
September 9, 200816 yr Also they learn more when they are excited. Most birds pick up words that their owners say as they walk into a room things like Hello, Whos a pretty boy etc.... Picking one word and using it each time you enter a room will help just make sure that the bird sees you come into the room and normally give him a food reward straight after saying the word. This is how I taught Harley to talk and he use to say things like "Wipe you feet" as people entered the house. The other way to do it is to cover their cage for 20min and play a CD or Tape of one or two words over and over again. Be careful that it is a clear quality as a friend of mine has peral who was the word about three times and then does a click sound and the sound of a tape rewinding, another click and then repeats the word three times again Yes repition is the key, Harley can sing the Buffy theme tune (if he wants or hears it) because as a young chick he heard it a few times a night for the first 6 - 8 months of his life with me.
September 10, 200816 yr yes.. definitely talking a lot to them and repetitively. When I enter the room where Charley is I always say "good morning Charley" (whatever time of day it is!!) ..he says it all the time. I find he picks up new phrases within 3 days but I do repeat them over and over to him. Sometimes he picks up things "accidentally". Like "what are you doing?" .. was something I say to him when he has one of his "flap attacks" (going crazy with the wings!) result is he now asks me all day long "what are your doing?" Patience is really all you need and dont be self conscious about looking (and sounding) stupid by talking to a bird, saying the same thing over and over again. I felt like a goose standing for hours at the cage going "you look nice today... you look nice today... " but it paid off, he tells me every time I walk in the door how nice I look today!
