Duckling Wondering In My Street

Featured Replies

Today I found a tiny duckling walking down my road with no other ducklings or mother in sight so I stopped and watched her for a bit then phoned the local council and asked for advice as there's lots of cats in my street . The person I spoke to suggested I leave her but then gave me a wildlife phone no to ring in which was incorrect so I phoned directory assistance and asked for the wildlife number again and tried that but once again incorrect . I got out of the car and the duckling run into a property by then being so frustrated re the wildlife number I jumped into the car and drove off and very angry as I felt she'd be killed in a very short time . Should have I picked her up or left hoping the mother might find her ?

Cheers

Where are you toohp? I am a wildlife vic volunteer. If the mother is around leave it but it may have got left behind. If you can't see the mum anywhere I would collect it in a box, keep it warm and keep an eye out for mum. If you tell me where you are I might be able to put you on to your closest carer. The wildlife number for Vic is 1300 000 WILDLIFE :)

what sort of duuckling is it? Maybe someones pet. Crows can pick them up and fly of with them- maybe it was picked up from someones yard then dropped down the road.

I'm in East Doncaster , Ive been back past the property but no sign or sound of the duckling . I'll go have another look but I fear with the likes of the crows and the Indian minors , cats etc etc I don't hold much hope . I should have picked it up !

It is such a hard thing to do. Do i pick it up , if i do what if the parents come looking for it , If i don't what will happen to it ..

It is a hard choice - But now you have the number, if you don't hear or see from it in the next day Just think that someone

else picked it up and took it the RSPCA :) At least you won't feel bad
