They are looking great! Hopefully the splayed legs won't be too extreme and it will have a relatively normal life. Good luck with it all. They look wonderful!

Thanks for the update Liv. Looking good! Your Lady so reminds me of my Gracie hehe and one of her babies is the spitting image of her, much like Lady's baby I am guessing :D

I thought the yf2 looked like a lut too.......but I am sure you know better being that you see them first hand and not just on a picture

  • Author

cant be lut as mum is a FY2 - she is my BB (birthday budgie) who hatched on my birthday in 07 - i kept her because she is special as we share a birthday. back then her parents were the only pair in the aviary and she is 100% blue under all that YF :D

hmmmm that makes these two little albino's my first grand kids

So cute, I love the last picture of the baby, have you entered that one in the Naked Baby Contest

Oh my gosh they are the cutest photos  I just love them at this age!

Should baby two with the splayed legs turn out to be a boy (I am only going to have two budgies and I don't know if I want to go down the track of having a girl), I would be more than happy to offer him an inside home with Coco.

Can I ask what colour you think baby two with the splayed legs and baby three will be?

Lady's babies look so pretty too :hi:

Sorry Tam, bad news. The little baby with splayed legs died. We had a really cold night last night and the parents rejected it at just the wrong time :hap:

Sorry Tam, bad news. The little baby with splayed legs died. We had a really cold night last night and the parents rejected it at just the wrong time

Oh no that is terrible :hap: I am so sorry Liv. I can't belive it, that's so sad. The poor little guy. Big huge hug sent your way :hap:

Sorry to hear about the baby Liv, I guess sometimes that is just nature's way though *hugs*

I agree Sunnie - nature can be tough. the baby was rejected by 2 foster nests - so it says to me that the parents knew there was further issues with the poor little bub.

We always cheer for the "underdog" and hope these little guys rally round and make it through, but these things just happen despite the best of care, knowledge and attention.

Sorry Liv

survival of the fittest unfortunately... It's never nice but its reality..

Oh Liv... I am so sorry to hear that mate ... You come across to me like a very Kind and gentle soul - I hope that you aren't to disheartened ....

Chin up Liv. It's so horrible when this happens, especially as it's so easy to get very attached to the little ones that are battling the odds.

Hope the other little beauties stay well! :D

Well with the run of bad luck that i have been having just recently i thought it was about time I got some good luck - well I DO :D:D:D

Pair Five

5.jpg7.jpg

This chick that i thought was a YF grey.. is infact a YF blue - i thought maybe violet, but looks to be sky blue today!!!! WOO HOOO that means Lady is split for blue

p5c1c.jpg

And more good news!!!

What are the odds that both these parents (green and grey are both dominant colours) are BOTH split for blue??

Well they are as their baby is also BLUE :D:D:D

Pair Three

2.jpg10.jpg

I need to get a new photo of their baby soon, but i am seeing little blue feathers coming through around its legs :(

Edited by **Liv**

okay, I am confused the first pair is a blue series bird? Grey is a blue series bird. Does that go with the baby is a yf blue? That would mean that your grey boy is not a double factor grey but a single factor, so yes I guess you can say split to blue but it is a blue series bird so really not the correct wording.

Gray factor is a color-adding factor. If a budgie has a grey factor, the color grey is added to the budgie's original body color. The grey factor is very strong and overrides the underlying color. Normal yellow-based budgies with a grey factor will be a grey-green color. Normal white-based budgies with a grey factor will be a grey color.

Basic Genetics:

Grey factor - dominant

Normal - recessive

I can't wait to see photos of your other surprise blue chick.

When do you think you will be able to tell the gender of your chicks? ....yes I know I am getting a bit ahead of myself....

Baby looks gorgeous Live :bump:

I understand your delight getting a blue baby, I had two greys together and I thought I would only get greys and yet I have a gorgeous sky blue baby from them :(
