Posted September 6, 200816 yr Please Help! The kids got Buddie Boy out of the cage the other day and his head was hanging down low and bent over to the right, like he was looking down at the bottom of the cage with his right eye. He is only young and just gone through his first moult. He is still eating well, and about 2 months ago I took his water feeder out and put one of those Hamster water feeder things with the steel ball in the end of the tube. I must say I have never seen him drink out of this so I put his old one back in today. He just seems a bit slow and a bit unstable on his feet. His head is still kinked over looking at the ground. Even when we scratch the right hand side of his face he does not seem to bend his head back like they do. Its like he slept bad on his neck and has a kink in it. Can anyone help? Steve
September 7, 200816 yr Hmmmm, does he seem weak on that side? Is his leg effected also? How are his poos? Is he under weight? A photo of him would help... but without seeing that, I'd be off to the avian vet if it was me. Good luck mate and please keep us updated
September 7, 200816 yr Like Maesie, said...other symptoms ? Like weight loss and pooey bottom ? Try to never make changes that are drastic...like with the drinker. They dont all know how to use them and would have been best to have both until you were sure he was using it.
September 7, 200816 yr In humans atleast that can be a symptom of an infection so I would be heading straight for the vet to be sure.

September 8, 200816 yr Author well I put his old style water feeder back in and the kids said they saw him using it. He appears to be a lot better this morning so maybe he was de-hydrated?
September 8, 200816 yr Valuable lesson learnt. Make no changes to food or water unless its a transitional change....old to new gradually.
September 8, 200816 yr I'm so glad that he seems better, lets hope this (seems) turns into a he IS better, I hate hearing when our beloved budgies are sick. Good luck and I hope all is well.
September 8, 200816 yr A good way to see if they are eating or drinking or both is this. White poos no black shows no eating Black poos no white shows no drinking A mix of both and firm is healthy
