Posted September 6, 200816 yr So I went over the a budgie breeder in Chandler today, and I finally brought home my new baby boy! :hap: So far he is a bit shy so I'm giving him some space to breathe and relax. Then in 4 weeks he will be introduced to Piccolo! :hap: I'm having a bit of trouble thinking of a name. My partner and I have an in-joke and wanted to call him Barkley (like the Sesame Street dog), but he seems a bit too small for that name! So I was thinking another musical name, like Kazoo or Poco. Oh well - I have the whole weekend to enjoy his company and think of a name.
September 6, 200816 yr Author Awe he is sweet, I like Poco , then you would have the 2 P's I thought so too - but I am totally paranoid that I will start interchanging names .... Piccolo ... Poco .... *laughs*
September 6, 200816 yr Agree there.... his left leg seems to sit out a bit far, although I wasn't thinking rickets, more along the lines of un-corrected splay legs? I also like Chandler
September 6, 200816 yr What a cutie!!! I love Chandler too and agree about legs... although he sems happy enough.
September 6, 200816 yr Author Agree there.... his left leg seems to sit out a bit far, although I wasn't thinking rickets, more along the lines of un-corrected splay legs? Yeah, he is a bit uneasy on his left leg. I was presuming it is because he is still so young ... is this something I should be worried about? I'm scheduled to take him to the vet in a fortnight (halfway through quarantine), but could take him earlier....
September 6, 200816 yr I would be a little worried about the leggs if you can get into see the vet it would be good. Otherwise one very cute boy!
September 7, 200816 yr Author I would be a little worried about the leggs if you can get into see the vet it would be good. Otherwise one very cute boy! I am going to try and get him to a vet tomorrow. As it is today, I've taken him out of the cage and notice that he is really uneasy on his feet - he will sit on the perch fine but move around a lot unless he is on a flat surface. He also tends to "burrow" into me, and is lying on his belly a lot .... ... My partner says we can wait to take to the vet until mid-week, but I really want to take him tomorrow morning. And yes - I'll be sending a note to the breeder as well. I'm really angry that she did not pick this up earlier (she mentioned that he did "lie down from time to time", but this seems a bit more serious).
September 7, 200816 yr I noticed the legs the first thing with the picture ... He is a lovely looking fellow - Good luck picking a name
September 9, 200816 yr Author Just an update on the special little guy - I took him to the vet last night (Brisbane Birds and Exotics)and now he is on a dosage of Calci-vet. We are not sure if it will do any good, as it seems as if both legs are a little weak. We also have put rope perches in his quarantine cage and he seems to be enjoying them a lot better. I've emailed the breeder as well. She did say she would love to hear updates, so I was more than happy to let her know. We finally decided on a name. Due to his quirky little nature (curious, energetic), he has officially been named Scout.
September 14, 200816 yr cute name for a lovely boy, have you got any more pictures? because i would just love to see him (and piccolo of course) :hap:
September 26, 200816 yr Maybe his legs are like that because of his age? They're so cute when they're still awkward on a perch and don't know how to land when they've been flying. But he might be a little older than that. At least you've got it checked out and are giving him some kind of treatment. He seems to be coping completely fine with it anyway. Congratulations he is a little sweetie and Scout is a great name for him
