So I went over the a budgie breeder in Chandler today, and I finally brought home my new baby boy! :hap:

So far he is a bit shy so I'm giving him some space to breathe and relax. Then in 4 weeks he will be introduced to Piccolo! :hap:

I'm having a bit of trouble thinking of a name. My partner and I have an in-joke and wanted to call him Barkley (like the Sesame Street dog), but he seems a bit too small for that name! So I was thinking another musical name, like Kazoo or Poco.

Oh well - I have the whole weekend to enjoy his company and think of a name.^_^

Awe he is sweet, I like Poco , then you would have the 2 P's ^_^

I thought so too - but I am totally paranoid that I will start interchanging names .... Piccolo ... Poco ....

*laughs*

I do that anyway with my kids and one starts with an A and the other a H ^_^

does he always perch like that? looks abit strange to me (possible rickets?)

Agree there.... his left leg seems to sit out a bit far, although I wasn't thinking rickets, more along the lines of un-corrected splay legs?

I also like Chandler ^_^

Yeah Chandler is a sweet name for a little cutie like him

^_^

What a cutie!!! I love Chandler too ;) and agree about legs... although he sems happy enough.

He is very cute, i hope he settles into your home well.

Yeah, he is a bit uneasy on his left leg. I was presuming it is because he is still so young ... is this something I should be worried about? I'm scheduled to take him to the vet in a fortnight (halfway through quarantine), but could take him earlier....

I would be a little worried about the leggs if you can get into see the vet it would be good. Otherwise one very cute boy!

I am going to try and get him to a vet tomorrow. As it is today, I've taken him out of the cage and notice that he is really uneasy on his feet - he will sit on the perch fine but move around a lot unless he is on a flat surface. He also tends to "burrow" into me, and is lying on his belly a lot ....

... My partner says we can wait to take to the vet until mid-week, but I really want to take him tomorrow morning.

And yes - I'll be sending a note to the breeder as well. :) I'm really angry that she did not pick this up earlier (she mentioned that he did "lie down from time to time", but this seems a bit more serious).

I noticed the legs the first thing with the picture ... He is a lovely looking fellow -

Good luck picking a name

Just an update on the special little guy - I took him to the vet last night (Brisbane Birds and Exotics)and now he is on a dosage of Calci-vet. We are not sure if it will do any good, as it seems as if both legs are a little weak. We also have put rope perches in his quarantine cage and he seems to be enjoying them a lot better. :)

I've emailed the breeder as well. She did say she would love to hear updates, so I was more than happy to let her know. :D

We finally decided on a name. Due to his quirky little nature (curious, energetic), he has officially been named Scout. :)

Good luck with Scout - I think it suits him :budgiedance:

cute name for a lovely boy, have you got any more pictures? :D

because i would just love to see him (and piccolo of course) :hap:

  • 2 weeks later...

Maybe his legs are like that because of his age? They're so cute when they're still awkward on a perch and don't know how to land when they've been flying. But he might be a little older than that. At least you've got it checked out and are giving him some kind of treatment. He seems to be coping completely fine with it anyway.

Congratulations :P he is a little sweetie and Scout is a great name for him
