Posted September 4, 200816 yr Sorry to ask a question that's probably been answered 1000 times already but I'm concerned my new baby is suffering from french moult. I Have had him for almost 2 months and just this morning I've noticed he's lost his tail feather!!! He's as happy as he normally is but should I be worried?? Also, if this is the case can he live a happy and normal life with his 1 year old buddy????
September 4, 200816 yr Losing one tail feather doesnt necessarily equate to french moult. He'd have to lose a lot more feathers and not regrow them for it to be french moult. Chances are high its just his first moult ? Edited September 4, 200816 yr by KAZ
September 4, 200816 yr Author I hope so, it only happened this moring so I'll keep an eye for any more lost ones. I just got worried when I seen how stumpy he looks
September 4, 200816 yr Author How old is he? about a year old, maybe it's just his first moult?? I'm stupid for over reacting I know lol
September 4, 200816 yr The first molt on a budgie is around 3-4 months, he is probably going through is 2nd molt by this age, loosing a tail feather and other feathers are very common with a molt, if your budgie had french molt it would have been idenfied at a very early age and he would most likely have difficulty flying or could not at all. No question is stupid, thank you for asking. If you like posting a picture of him on this post would be very helpful.
September 4, 200816 yr French moult only effects baby Budgies just as they are leaving the nest, so your bird hasn't got it, so stop worrying, as others have told you it's probably just normal moulting.
