Posted September 4, 200816 yr My son's budgies have been very frisky over the past couple of weeks. Last year we took out the nest box (that came with the aviary) because we didn't want to be indiscriminately breeding (although we let him have one family before taking it out) but then they started laying on the floor. Well the budgies are at it again, this time without the nest box. If er don't put it back will they keep laying eggs on the floor? I'm in two minds whether or not to put the box back again for Spring.
September 4, 200816 yr Author There are two pairs. One pair is mating. The other want nothing to do with each other. My husband says it's because they've been married too long :lol:I was thinking of putting in two nest boxes just in case the other two rekindle the flame.
September 4, 200816 yr If you are serious about breeding them then they need their own cages and nest box, this is best so there are no fights for nest boxes and over the hens etc...that would be my advice. If you don't want babies you can addle the eggs and pitch them. I am sure you will get other advice too.
September 4, 200816 yr Hi Smudgie. Is your cage big enough to hold the new family once the babies leave the nest? Also I would not be putting just one nest box in this will lead to fighting and serious injuries can occur especially with the hens. I agree witth Elly seperate cages are best.
September 5, 200816 yr If you want to give it a go wait a couple of weeks and then put atleast three nest boxes in there that way if there are dramas I should have some on eggs that I can foster yours under for you :hap:
September 5, 200816 yr It's an aviary Kaz :hap: Given the aviary was only new last year I had assumed the pairs were young but it's a good point :hap: Edited September 5, 200816 yr by melbournebudgies
