Posted August 29, 200816 yr hi all, just a quick question to put my mind at ease...my little Booga came home with me last saturday and is 7 weeks old. he came to me a fat little chubba chub but now he seems to have lost quite a bit of weight (i can feel his breastbone but its not over prominant (or should i not feel it all ))..i have watched him closely eat to make sure he not just playing with the seed but the empty husks are evident..i have tried feeding him mashed egg mixed with broccolli and sprinkled seed on top and through it but he just picks the seed out..i have also tried grated apple and seed thinking that the sweet apple may entice him but to no avail...is it early days to expect him to eat different foods??? is it that mum is no longer feeding him so often and its normal to lose a bit of weight??? should i be concerned at this point or give it more time??? he is very active and is out of the cage exploring for most of the time while im home so maybe thats what it is..he is showing no signs of ill health so maybe im worrying for nothing?????? I am new at the whole baby budgie thing so any advice is welcome..thanks
August 29, 200816 yr I am not an expert on this but you are doing everything right and continue doing what you are doing to get him to eat different foods continue to offer it can take months. If he is alert, singing and not acting different I believe it is very common for babies to loose that chubby look and start to slim down into the adult budgie form.
August 29, 200816 yr sounds fine to me what your doing just keep up trying with the fresh food if he is out and about now he could be slimming down a little being able to fly around alot more then he was use to
August 30, 200816 yr I agree with what has been said It is quite normal for him to loose a little weight at his age. If you cant feel the breastbone a little at least, it would mean he is overweight and needs to go on a diet. Edited August 30, 200816 yr by **Liv**
August 30, 200816 yr Thin in conjunction with pooey bottom and listless behaviour would be something to worry about. If this isnt the case, it should be fine. Has he been wormed ?
August 31, 200816 yr Author Thin in conjunction with pooey bottom and listless behaviour would be something to worry about. If this isnt the case, it should be fine. Has he been wormed ? he hasnt been wormed but we have had a trip to the vet already and the vet did a health check including his poo for parasites and it was clear. should i worm him anyway???
August 31, 200816 yr If the vet cleared him he should be fine. Please post some clear photos of him taken in natural light and we will take a look and help you some more
September 1, 200816 yr If he is New - New birds often take a day or 2 to adjust and feel comfortable to eat :hap: You may find too that his poo turns a greeny color which is okay as he hasn't eaten in a while. Try grated carrot first by itself with a little seed sprinle on top :hap:
