I am worried about Amelia, she went in to the aviary on Wednesday with the other girls and seemed fine but as I have been going about the feeding and cleaning I have noticed that when she tries to fly she can't keep the height and ends up on the floor, then she runs to the side of the aviary and climbs back up the wire, the problem with this is that the only perch she can reach from here is the one at the front where there is little protection from the weather. I have brought her inside tonight cause it is still chilly and it is supposed to rain. I haven't seen her eating except when Fred feeds her (she can reach a food dish if she wants), she is not over weight and I can't see any damage to her wings. Has anyone got any idea what could be wrong?

Has she got a loose feather in her wings?? It could also be a blood feather that coming though and causing her pain. She may have strained her wing. She could have a feather cyst or it could be weakness as a result of an illness.

 

You are doing the right thing keeping her inside and keeping her warm.

Keep a close eye on her, if she gets worse or shows any other signs of sickness she will need to see the vet.

thanks for the replies guys, no she finished molting awhile ago, she seems fine other than this, I will have to give her a good check over tomorrow, have a proper look for loose feathers and cysts, what do the blood feathers look like?

They are the ones that have blood in them ...

The old ones are white ....

okay so no cysts but there is one blood feather coming though o the wing that she seems to be favouring, there is also some slightly damaged flight feathers on the other, once she is on the ground she cant lift off at all almost like she has had her wings clipped.
