Posted August 29, 200816 yr Hi, this morning my Violet was cuddling up to Alex and they were both seemingly happily chirping at each other.. about half an hour ago, only 10 mnutes after i checked on them my Alex was on the bottom of the cage... my hubby called me out. i got a tea towel and picked Alex up and held him close to my chest and breathed warm air onto him. he is now on the tea towel sitting on my desk with my heat lap over him. his feet are curled back toward his tail. is it to late for him, i think he got cold this morning as it was unusually cold here. thanks any help / advise would be apreciated..
August 29, 200816 yr I am not much help but I hope that he is okay, I think you have done the right thing so far but others may have an answer for you Good luck
August 29, 200816 yr I'm sorry to say but it sounds like it's too late for him unless you work quickly and can work out what is causing it. I find that to be their final position when they start to fit (legs back, wings flapping, neck rolling). If it's a chill and lack of food that's done it he can be rescued if you can crop feed him and raise his body temperature drastically... if it's for any other reason there's probably not alot you can do but sit by and hold him until he passes Rarely birds will come out of the fitting stage unless it's body temp and food that's done it to them.

August 29, 200816 yr Have you check his crop for contents? feel it to see if there's anything in there? Does he feel light, is he fluffed up and is there unusual looking poo's?
August 29, 200816 yr Author Have you check his crop for contents? feel it to see if there's anything in there?Does he feel light, is he fluffed up and is there unusual looking poo's? his crop feels empty.. he does feel light . will biskut meal wih warm water feed him? his head is a little fluffed up like he gets when he is cross with me.. !!! his eyes are twitching, not sure if its the light or if these are his 'fits'
August 29, 200816 yr He really needs to be crop fed and placed in a very warm atmosphere... Crop feeding is essential at this stage so that he doesn't get any into his lungs and he won't voluntarily eat it. Do you know anyone nearby or a vet who can do this for him? August 29, 200816 yr Author no i don't, i am in the hawkesbury at East kurrajong, is there any contacts near by that you would know of..
August 29, 200816 yr I don't know much about NSW unfortunatly WA is very secluded so there isn't really much point in knowing places in other states... If you have MSN and can go to somewhere and buy a 14 gauge crop needle i can show you how to via Webcam.
August 29, 200816 yr Author can i log onto msn and show you via webcam, please tell me how to do it, i have never used my webcam before..
