How would I get yellow faces and what two birds should you pair to achieve this? I would like to breed yellow face greys and the yellow face blue varieties. thanks all.

Yellowfaces have to come from yellowface parents.

Going to have to buy some yellow face birds I'd say

What would the offspring be if you bred a yellow face blue and a yellow face grey together???

Grey's dominant so prodiminantly yf greys...

I am not the best with genetics but i thought two yellow faces together would give DF (double factor) yellow face babies, which would actually have white faces.

You're right there Liv... Yf1 Df's have white faces, type two's don't... I guess I just presumed she meant type 2 LOL!

Whats the differance between type 1 and type 2??

Type one means the birds body stays blue and the head is yellow (the yellow doesn't effect the blue of the body or wash over at all)

 

Type two means the birds body is blue and face yellow initially, but as it grows older the yellow washes over the blue to create different levels of colours (sky blue goes to "seafoam" cobalt to aqua and mauve often goes to a dark green) all blues turn to some varying shade of aqua/blue/green

 

The bird in my DP you enquired about is a type two seafoam.

So you cant tell that its a type 2 till it gets older??

There are 3 different yellow face mutations so if you are breeding yellow face budgies it pays to know which type you have. They all have a dominant breeding pattern which means that if any mutation of yellow face is mated to a non yellow face you could expect 50% yellow face chicks

 

If two type 1 yellow face budgies are mated together they will produce a white faced bird that is in fact a double factor yellow face. If this bird is mated to a normal budgie it will produce yellow face offspring. This is not the same as being split for a mutation

 

If two type 2 yellow face birds are mated together they will produce yellow face chicks that don't have nearly as much yellow fusing with the body colour as their parents.

 

The third common type is the golden face it's breeding pattern is similar to the type 2.

 

If your pair are one from each group you could get combinations the same as you get when mixing other mutations

MY BIRD is a Golden face ...... That is her partner Snowman ( albino)

So in order to get your YF's you need at least 1 parent being a YF or a DF (double Factor ) YF
