Posted August 25, 200816 yr Okay so yesterday I ducked over to meet AV and have alook at her fantastic set-up and just chat birdies a bit! Now AV lives about 3 minutes drive from my all time favorite pet shop, which my other half had banned me from!!!, Now my partner new that I was heading over that way and didnt tell me NOT to go into the shop, so I asked AV what time it shut, her response was "fiveish I think, want to go have alook" she then grabbed my arm and twisted it really hard (only kidding, sorry AV) Anyway I walked in and went all to pieces, there was a great looking grey green cock, who was all puffed up, great bog looking throat spots, oh he was so pretty! Well lets just say AV got in first (insert jealous lloking smiley here) I look alittle bit more and I see this great looking Grey opaline Cock, clear forehead, nice size throat spots, fairly clean saddle who stands proud and has okay length! Done dibs on him! I couldnt walk out of there with a solo male, as i like to keep the male to female ratio even, everything in pairs. I then find a grey hen, she has great size, good length clear mask, head not brilliant but with the right breeding she would throw some very nice looking babies, got alittle confused though as on her left side she has white flight feathers, but grey on her right, she also has two white feathers on the back of her head, but apart from that she looks like a grey normal! Does the white wing and dot on the back mean that she may be split dominant pied or is she just a poorly coloured dominant pied? Anyway I now have another pair, but mum's the word, the other half still hasnt noticed!!!! Here are some bad shots, he loves the camera, she hates it. I will get some better shots when they are setteled abit more, and not coupled up in quaritine! Cock: You can see the white dot on the back of the hens head in this shot. Here is another with a bit better light Now you can see the white flight feathers in the hen now! And this is the best shot I could get of the hen at the moment, I will try for better soon Now you can all blame AV for the purchases, she is a terrible influence, oh or maybe I am on her, as she did by two as well!!!
August 25, 200816 yr Nice cock you have there :hap: HE IS VERY NICE pics are a little small to see the hen But nice shopping ... WAITS FOR AV'S PHOTOS :D
August 25, 200816 yr A bird cannot be split for dom pied, but a small spot can mean split for recessive pied. PS Your pictures are allowed to be 640 by 480. :hap: Edited August 25, 200816 yr by KAZ
August 26, 200816 yr Author I made them bigger but they just looked HUGE on the screen! When the kiddies get back from the Vet tomorrow I will see if I can get better photo's and I will post them at the right size. Thanks Kaz! Im sure that when AV reads this I will get the ALL the Blame!!!!! As long as she is still will to take me along to her bird club meeting I can handle that!
August 26, 200816 yr When you do a resize on the original picture in photobucket use the message board one that is the correct resize for the boards . Congrats on your new birds.
August 27, 200816 yr Blame me why don't you! :hap: Yes I got two new ones as he said a big grey green and a much smaller and birghter green opaline. And can I remind you that it was you that told me I had a cock shortage! (and this is the only place I would get away with saying that ) Just got back from SA and the grey green looks a little unwell so going to have to treat him with kid gloves will post pictures when i can.
August 27, 200816 yr Author well due to running extremely late this afternoon, I missed my vet appointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both birds seem to be in reasonable health, both have slightly wet droppings and the hens tail is drooped, BUT thankfully there is no bobbing in either of them! But they will still be off for a vet check!!! Oh by the way AV you did seem to have a larger number of hens than cocks and when you get your box's you are going to need those cock birds! Oh and the other half still hasnt noticed that they are there yet! (insert very evil smile here) OH (otherhalf) told me that the babies that have just hatched look like chicken carcus ready for cooking! not happy about that, I think that they are simply stunning!!
