my school has nine budgies.

there's a little show coming up [bangalow Show, NSW], the school puts in quails and guinea pigs, and i want to try the budgies.

but i don't really know anything about budgie showing

 

out of the nine, i think i'll only enter seven or six, if they're the right type for shows, that is.

the shows in November.

when i went to the Brisbane Show, there were a lot of pieds, but she's a bit small.

her white also seems to have a yellow tinge to it

a violet[obviously] male, he's not small but he isn't that boofy big.

green yellow-winged male.

if you look carefully, you can see he has blue around his vent and underneath his green feathers.

he's also pretty big too.

she was bought from an English budgie breeder, she is big and poofy, but i'm not sure about the feather quality, or her colour.

the breeder told us she's a cobalt with two dark factors, i think she very pretty, but is that what the show world likes?

she was bought from the same English breeder, is tall but not boofy.

he's a yellow-faced grey wing, with yellow tail feathers and a yellow tinge to his wings.

he's only two-three months old, and is slightly boofy, and i don;t think he'll be small like his mother.

 

 

well, there's my budgies.

there's another budgies, Saphira, who is a big, boofy sky-blue white wing hen from that English budgie breeder, but she doesn't look very good and i don't have any decent photos of her either.

 

if you have tips or anything about showing, they would be very appreciated.

I wouldnt be able to say as I don't show budgie's but there all gorgeous Nari is my favourate he beautifull

I think you should show all of them but it does depend on whether you can only show your own birds and whether those budgies have your leg ring.

 

For example, over here in the West, Novice showers can show bought birds (that is budgies bred by others with their leg rings) and I think it's vital to do so because this way you can actually gauge how good your purchase is. Also if you can approach a judge after the show you can get their appraisal of your budgie and it helps to get your 'eye in'.

 

At the beginning all your birds look wonderful but after a few shows you get an idea what the desired features for a show budgie are and you get more discerning. But through the show process you learn what the good features of your budgies are and more importantly what they are lacking. This way when it comes to pairing you have a better chance of making a good choice and hopefully will breed better birds. Also, if an auction comes up or you can visit another breeder's you are in a better position to make a valued purchase.

 

But first things first, make sure they're eligible for showing before you rock up.

uhh, nope.

i know nothing about budgie showing, and either does anyone at the school.

this'll be everyones first time.

i would say you would have to have a leg ring on them for sure, even in small shows, this is to say that you have bread the birds and also it will say what year's chicks they are.like you could have a young smaller bird, trying to compete with a older larger mature one.i like your birds though,i was in your position when i started as well, all i wanted to do was show my birds but with out coded rings i wasn't able to.i would recomend joining a local show club if you can its heaps of fun.i would also say it would be a real good idea to maybe go along to a show first without your birds, that way you get an idea of what go's on .When i first started i ended up selling all the birds i had and buying a few from a more experienced breeder, they are a completly different type of bird altogether
