Hi I thought you guys would like to see my new set-up after buying new stuff for them which I cant stop doing(PLEASE HELP ME!!!)

Also my dad built me a nest box wondering is it going to work for Sky?

And do you feed them somthing special to help with there condition and strength during breeding?

I look it up lots but never find USEFULL information so any help is appreciated

Does the cobalt gene carry the violet gene I saw some gorgeous violet chicks today when I went to the aviary so just wondering?

Red Circle=Nest box

Blue Circles=Water (theres a large bowl on the ground for them to bath in)

Purple Circle=Water and fruit shelf

Yellow Circle=food and there millet and a fruit stick hung up

the dimensions are the same as Daz's nest box and the cage is 2foot high 3foot long all the way round it comes up too my hips and im 4foot somthing I'm short

Violet is a dominant gene and can be carried in any budgie colour (check aroung the vent for any vilet colouring). The cobalt gene is a dark factor blue. If you want to breed a visual violet (Purple) then I would pair a violet budgie to a cobalt as the true visual violet budgie is a cobalt violet. (at least thats my understanding)

 

There is so much to learn with genetics. Try this web page http://www.geocities.com/heartland/bluffs/1958/index.html It might help you in understanding the genetic side of breeding dofferent vairties/colours of budgies.

 

Other more experienced breeders may try to answer this question better or even correct me if I'm wrong.
