Avairy Make Over

Hey All ...

So today was Day 1 : Of doing up the Crappy Avairy i bought off EBay Grrrrr!!!

*I took down the wire as it was partly rusted and had white stuff all over it ( corrosion Maybe)

*I :book: read up on how to treat and etc the areas - But I am not sure what i can use, that

will be safe for the birds???

( Any suggestions ???)

:D I kept bumping my head on the little door way frame  ...so that went

*The outside of it got a wash down just with water for the time being and the inside got broomed

to get the cob webs off and other creepy crawlies .. :o

*I went to place the new wire on - BUT  WORNG SIZE!!!

it is too short and not wide enough .... But it was given to meh so I will give it back and buy some new rolls......

okay So i want to make sure that I get the right size is it 10mm x 10mm ??

I am thinking about making one of the side like Dazza's Suspended ( so it looks like a bay window???) I am going to view his page again to see how he did it and then work out if it is going to work with mine :D

The roller door is removed I will be buying hinges to creat an open and close door, But!!!! Will need a safety door  I need my thinking cap on for that one ....

So basically Day 1 was really not a long day

But it is a start!!!

P.S I have taken photo's :D :D :D and will post them up tonight

Great start... I can just hear your mind ticking away from here :D

It sounds productive, although you may not have got everything done you wanted. I look forward to photos and following your journey...

hey neat that sounds great atleast you started on it. did it cost you alot because im thinking on getting a new avairy and getting rid of the one i have now. its a little old and scaby. but im not sure if im going to get a brand new one or a second hand one. and how long is the one youve got ?

best of luck with day 2 lol

regards Joel

Best of luck with the aviary. Cant wait to see some photos. Building an aviary is always fun as you know that at the end of it you will be able to enjoy it.

John

Tapping foot, waiting for photos :D:angry::angry: Sound familiar Neat

OMG was that aviary you got from ebay crappy in the end :D

Are you still going to paint it purple??

I have just bought an aviary mesh wire from Stratco which is 6mm x 6mm - i'd like to see a mouse squeeze though that!

I look forward to following your renovation

I bought an avairy from a pet store that was closing down (Display model for $500 - as long as I took it down, worth over s1200 new)with a safety door, measured 2.7 x 1.5. I attached my old avairy to the side of this (1.2 x 1.2) that acts as my breeding avairy. So my flight is 2.2 x 1.5 and I can get through one aviary to the other. So far this setup works well (no budgies lost and no bumps on the head) My floor is mouse and snake mesh with pavers on top. No evidence of mice inside yet (but the buggers are there I can see their **** in the shed about 8 meters away).

Good luck with your setup Neat.

Thanks guys ...

Oh Denise you are cracking me up lately :hap:

Yes yes I know PHOTOS hahah, When the kids are in bed I will have time to resize and up load them :hap:

YES STILL GOING PURPLE!!!! :hap:

6mmx6mm mesh is what I was looking for but then thought, well i have colorbond on the bottom of this so, the normal size will be fine ...

I can do cart wheels in it heheh it's 2m x 1.5 m x 2m .... I need the width of the wire to be 120cm ...

Rethought about putting in a Bay window as it leaves my birds open to attacks from wild birds and their Yucky poos :D

Shopping list for this week includes

2 x hinges ( will remember to measure the width of the frame )

Aviary Mesh

Something to coat the metal ...

that is too start with .. Might get the paint too that way when i am ready i can paint it :D :D :D

Bugger tell me about a bargin Avairy when i bought a lemon ... YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ..

When given lemons MAKE LEMONADE!!

So look out for the lemmonade stall comming soon :hap:

Snake and Mice Hmm That sounds interesting Ikon, you got a picture of that ???

---------

ADDED to notes for DAY 1

Sheet Metal that i was going to use as the bottom layer of the base is no good ... Will need to look for a company that does sheet metal ... Or work out the cost to lay a slab .... Hmmmmmm

Thanks guys ...

Go for it neat give all the iron work a good scrubbing with warm water and :hap: a good grade of vinegar before you do anything like painting

Thanks Dodger - I wanted to know if i needed to treat the bare metal with anything too as it will be paited as well :hap:

hey Neat why not look for some cheap pavers to lay instead of concrete, sometimes people buy to many and want to get rid of the excess, and I am using 12mm by 12mm mesh on mine. hope it turns out well, have fun I know I will :hap:

Way to go Neat iam sure you will make your Aviary suit your needs for your budgies, and make it to your own satisfaction ......good luck with it and waiting for your progress pictures ..lol regards .... John & Swanacilli
