Introducing New Bird

I know I was supposed to keep the birds separate. But my budgie of almost 2 months, Shelfie, was so excited when she heard Dave chirp. She went nuts and started scaling the cage. So l let her see him. I put both cages on the dining room table. She flew out of her cage and started trying to get in Dave's cage. I finally let her in as they seemed friendly through the bars. The chewed on each other's beaks like long lost friends. She seemed to try to lead him to her larger cage and when he didn't come she stayed. She finally went back to own cage and I closed her up.

Now she's trying to open the sliding door. She chirps to Dave and he chirps back and rattles his cage.

Should I let them be together?

I've never seen her more happy or more anitimated. She behaves much more bird like. I'm okay with her not bonding to me. I just want to keep her tame enough she can come out and play and step up to go back if needed.

Thoughts?

I know they are sharing germs. I'll figure I'll bring them both to the vet together next week for their check-ups.

Thanks,

Summer

Should you let them be together ?? You have already done that which totally defeats the purpose of quarantine. :D

Summer... how long have you had your new bird away from your old bird for? :D

Summer please check your profile info...it says you are a male which I doubt. It also says you are a breeder with one budgie. Go into your controls and edit.

You are right I am not a man. I'll have to figure out how to change that.

I left them go together. Dave have moved into Shelfie's larger condo. He had a studio apt. Ha. Honestly Dave might be a girl for all I know. But they are happy. It's nice to see. I'll just work with them together.

Thanks for your input. I always appreciate it.

Quarantine is an important factor - But as you have put them both together already. Just keep an eye on them.

Summer please separate them a lot of member may not know the history of your new bird. You just got this new bird from the SAME place that you returned your very SICK bird that you just bought. As I said in my other post if that bird was sick it could be very likely the new one is too because they came from the same store.

Pretty didn't look sick in the morning and by evening he was died in my hands. You can NOT tell by visual eye if a bird is sick many times.

You need to have the separated in different rooms out of ear reach's if the noise from your other bird causes your existing one to go crazy.

:o ... Oppps I shot my mouth off ... I wasn't aware of that !!

I had no idea they could get sick so fast. I'm guessing the damage is already done by this point. However they are both eating and doing well. I think new Dave might have scaly mites though. He's got a funky spot on his beak.

Hopefully neither are sick and will make it okay until next Monday.

Thanks again for your input. I never had a pair before and didn't know how excited they would get to see each other. Shelfie's cere is starting to really change color. She's looking more girl like.

Dave is much more calm than Shelfie. She really is a super nervous bird. She's so sweet though.

You can still separate them the damage has not been done.

I am sorry but I have to agree with Elly here.

It wasnt the birds need to be together as much as your need to put them together. For a birds sake and health the human in their life has to be the one to make the tough decisions.

I agree with Elly.

For example. If you visit someone who has the flu, you wont necessarily catch it, but if you live with someone who has the flu your chances of getting it are VERY high.

I would still separate.
