Posted August 17, 200816 yr My daughter's lovebirds, Bonnie and Clyde, seem to have produced 3 eggs in time for my birthday (well not all laid today of course!!). We dont know if they are fertilised or not and they dont want to interfere in case it puts the parents off caring for them. So we wait and see!! How exciting and what a lovely "birthday present". They've had the birds (they have two couples) for around 12 months now and they werent babies when they got them, this is the first time they've bred though. It is kind of cute as they bought 4 birds (from a breeder) and they seem to just immediately "pair off"... picking the partner they preferred. There are two nest boxes and both couples "shopped around" and moved into the house of their choice. No squabling.. other than when the four of them get together of course.. although its hard to know if they're squabling or just passing on neighbourly chit chat!! What a lovely experience (and educational!!) for my 3 grandkids (boy aged 12 and girls 6 and 4). What a lovely way to learn about "the birth of birds"... to see it all for themselves. We're all very excited and fingers crossed the eggs will hatch! we wait......... :parrot: :parrot:
August 17, 200816 yr thats good news they should be fertile as lovebirds are prettey good breeders like budgies what type of lovebirds are they ? peachface or masks ? anywayz best of luck with them my fingers are crossed too lol best regards Joel
August 17, 200816 yr Good luck My lovebirds bred for the first time this year also (after years of owning them) They make lovely pets... mine paired up (yellow peachfaced to a green masked) to produce some gorgeous hybrids which I beleive are frowned upon, but they make lovely pets
August 17, 200816 yr Author I'm pretty sure they're "masks".. they dont have the pretty pale peachy colour cheeks but have the black around their eyes and are predominantly green, red and yellow.. if that makes sense. When I'm over there on the weekend I'll get some photos of the adults.
August 17, 200816 yr I used to get confused between masked and fischers, to me they looked the same Can't wait to see photo's
August 17, 200816 yr They sound alot like fischers. My masks took a few years to get going but once they did...!! I have taken the nestboxes out for a bit Edited August 17, 200816 yr by the pie
