Normal Budgie? I Don't Think So

Featured Replies

So seeing our budgie is female, does this mean that she won't talk??

Correct - she is unlikely to talk (but it can happen in rare cases)

OPPS: Our cage is cage number 6

Thought so :P

Perhaps aim for a new one very soon - she will be MUCH happier in one of these cage2-1.jpg

:hap:

We got "Angel" her new cage today. It's the same as the one you suggested i get.

We named her "Angel" because she's white and when she runs along the edge of the cage floor, she spreads her wings out like an Angel.

Thanks for the tip :hap: :hap: :hap:

Brilliant!!!! :hap: :P :hap:

that cage is perfect! The only change that you can make is changing the perches around so they run from front to back rather than side to side (you will need to shorten them) - or even better, use natural branches instead of the dowle :hap:

She should feel much more comfortable. Angel is a beautiful name :angel1:

We have put some perches across ways.We have also got a little nesting house to make her feel comfortable if she needs it.

We also agree that she is a Dark eyed clear.

Angel will be quite at home in that cage, but... she doesn't need a nesting house. The problem with them is that the hens (females) can see them as a place to nest and lay eggs. And although she is young and hasn't got a male in with her, it won't stop her. Also, if females lay eaggs when their bodies aren't ready, this can lead to more problems... :hap:

We'll take the nest out tomorrow then. :P

You are such a caring budgie owner and so open to input from others :P

Angel is a very lucky girl :hap:

Sorry to burst your bubble :hap: . I totally agree with Liv though. You've asked many questions and have been willing to listen to every ones thoughts, ideas and advice. Angel is going to have a very long and happy life and because of the way she will be treated and looked after by you, you will reap the rewards... I look forward to sharing in the journey.

I forgot to say I have the same cage as you have just bought. I have two bubs which I bred in there, Gucci and Dolce, and they love it. They have lots of toys, a swing, natural perches and fresh leaves when I can get them... An awsome buy!

What sort of toys should we have?

We currently have a swing, a ladder, a series of 3 balls in a row (hanging off a string), a couple of pegs, some cuttlefish.

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Craig

Glad to see that you've got a better cage now. Hope things settle down for you ;)

Budiges LOVE fresh branches (covered in young leaves) from gum trees. They will spend hours ripping it to shreds - just make sure you wash any branches and leaves first ;)

Thank you everyone for your comments. They are greatly appreciated. :hap: :D

"Angel" is still pacing the floor of her cage.

When we let her out to have a fly around, she sits on top of the celling fan's blades, (NO it is not going).

She isn't to hard to catch.

Have we done the right thing by letting her fly around a lot?

Should we perservere with getting her to sit on our finger first?

Thanks in advance as you have all been a great help so far.

By the way she isn't white anymore, she is a shade of Grey because of the dust on the skylight.

P56263.jpgIs this okay? its the same as mine.ALSO: you mention washing up leave branches? How and why. what happens if you dont. Also are all gums okay?Craig B: There are soooo many toys out there for birds. Its hard to go wrong. Go for toys that are made out of acrylic plastic rope or wood. Try and avoid metals cause some may be toxic to birds (yes i know, why do they sell them as bird toys then...? cause they dont care thats why!). Have fun buying toys! I know i do!

Craig she is flying to the top because she is getting away from you and letting her just go and fly without any training you are enabling the fear of you.

She is probably pacing the cage because she knows you will get her out so she can fly up there.

Have you thought about taming her down first with getting her wings clipped? (just an option) but there are many pros to it for a one time clip and I bet a lot of this behavior will stop.

Read through the taming article in the FAQ's I wrote up I talk about how I worked with Pretty and tamed him, he was from a pet shop and was hard to tame and stubborn.

Hi all.

I know it's been a long time since i've posted, but i do still read most of the topics that are here.

Unfortunatly it is with sad news that i do post.

We lost our little "angel" on Tuesday morning.

Our cat got into the house on Monday afternoon and had Angel in her mouth, but we got her out and put her in her cage. She had lost her tailfeathers but everywhere else looked o.k.

She went very quite on Monday night, and tuesday morning she was on the bottom of her cage struggling to breathe. I was able to nurse her before she passed.

It was a very tearful event for our whole family.

We put her into a little box with a soft peice of material and some packing wrap to comfort her.

We will be getting another one soon as the house is SO quiet, and me miss her mimicking the local bird sounds and calls.

We have all learn't by the experience that we had with "Angel" and will be enjoying the budgie scene again soon.

Craig

awww sorry to hear about your loss Craig. Hope you find a new feathered friend soon

Sorry to hear that Craig  Cat saliva is extremely toxic to birds and even if they look okay at first these things happen.....sometimes also delayed shock for the bird. Very very sad and must have been quite a shock to you all too at the time

AWWW.....Thats a cute little video!!!

R.I.P Angel....

aww shes a cute bird.

ps that bell has slits in it that could be dangerous if a toe were to be caught in it.

Thanks again for the kind words.

They are grately appreciated.

I still close the door and cover the cage every night, and uncover the cage and open the door of a morning.

Force of habit i suppose.

Sorry for your loss craig, they are only little scraps of things, but they sure get into your heart. Hope your family find a lovely new friend, but your angel will stay with you. ;)
