Which Seeds Can I Grow And Feed?

Featured Replies

I have tried to grow budgie and cockatiel mix, but I don't know if I can actually feed it to them. There is millet, I think it's okay to feed, but then there is also canary seed, hemp, linseed, nigerseed, safflower, buckwheat, sorgho, sunflower, paddy rice, oats, yellow panicum.

Did you try to feed some of these plants? They love the grown millet, but I'm afraid to try the rest

I've just spread it in a pod and it's growing very nicely, but if some of it is not okay to feed as a plant, I'll only grow the ones that are safe :D

Whatever you are feeding them as seed, you can grow as a plant and feed to them. They will love you more :)

Don't worry, I think I'll take the sunflowers away anyway, they don't look good to eat :)

You going to sprout hemp??? :huuh: hehhe

If your seed that you feed your birds do not sprout then change brands as it is n't good seed :)

Teee heee :D Uh oh gonna have trouble gowing this one!

Just did my planting today.

One pot: millet, one pot: wild grass (oats), one pot: budgie pot luck mix.

I'll post pics when they sprout.

dont tell many people that your growing hemp :P you might get some visitors when the plants have grown ;)

i planted sunflower and corn for the birds and have a small patch of garden where i throw the old seed to grow fresh seed heads.

Sunflower is okay for them. ;). Just make sure anything you grow you don't spray with pesticides (I know you won't but putting it out there).

In our FAQ we have food links too.

Good luck with the plants. I am in the process of doing the same thing... well not hemp but millet and budgie seed mix. looking forward to how it goes. Good luck. Keep us posted and show us some pics! :D If you can.
