Posted March 9, 200520 yr As it says above, i've had my budgie since satyrday and it's 8 weeks old today and i noticed that sometimes his droppings get stuck to his feathers but i just figured that was mabybe normal but today when i came into rom and looked at him i noticed he had a huge green poo hanging down and it was like a thread it was almost a clump of poo. The thing i noticed was that it's very gree. He acts very normal chirping away and eating and drinking normal so it doesnt seem to be effecting him. Has anyone heard of this before or experienced it? Would it be normal?
March 9, 200520 yr normal budgie droppings look like little targets with equal parts white and dark olive green. if you see dark green droppings on the cage floor - they are just the fresh ones and are perfectly fine. however, they should not be sticking to the feathers in 'clumps'. this may be a sign of a digestive problem, which unfortunately budgies are prone to if they are on an all/mostly seed diet. i would take your little fella to the vet for a checkup, as i wouldnt want it to develop into something longterm. also check that there are no seeds in the droppings. if you can actually see seeds in the droppings your bird is very ill indeed and will need immediate attention from a vet - this also applies if the droppings are luminous bright green. hope he gets well soon
March 9, 200520 yr I agree with Pixie but also have to say that both my birds droppings changed slightly for a while when I got them home and indeed both had them stuck to them. I just gently washed it off for a couple of days and they were fine, but I think if you are worried you should let the vet know. Julie
March 9, 200520 yr Cheers for that, i think it was just a random grren clump of poo as he's being fine now and seems okay. I'll keep a close eye though.
March 10, 200520 yr I really must get pictures taken, i'll make a point of doing it at some point today and post them up asap.
