Here are pics of my budgies eating the seed I grew for them. They love it. :budgiedance: I took some soil, put a layer of their own bird seed and watered it. Left if for a little over a week and they went to town on this pan... ^_^

Changed photos to links. They were over the board regulation size of 640 x 460. Please resize before posting.

Great idea! If you did a new one every couple of days you could just swap it over for them. They will love you even more if you leave it long enough for it to get seed heads on it :budgiedance:

Great photos. They sure are loving it :budgiedance:

I'm way ahead of you on that, the next tray is already grown and ready to be swapped out. I figure I'll rotate the pans as they eat off each one. I'll try to hold out on this next pan for the seed heads though. Thanks for the tip.

How many have had succes, growing there bird seed.I have to say,I have not been very successfull, very few seeds germinate,I just wondered if any other have been able to get it to grow.

Growing from seed is great but can be hard at times the main thing is to use good quality seed if it isnt it will not geminate

I do it for Charley, he loves playing in his grassy patch!! I also keep them going, I plant them each week in small container lids (size of small saucer) and as one "finishes" I swap it with another. I alternate between the mixed seed and pure millet.

Sometimes I leave him without any for a day or two so that he's really excited when he gets a new one. Maxie on the other hand is terrified of this green thing in her cage and wont go near it, however I still keep putting them in there hoping that one day she'll have a closer look!!

I find its even fun for me to grow the seed for them! I love watching it sprout and grow! (must be a motherly thing!!):)

okay... I've never done it before but am going to start... I guess I just put some soil in a tray, sprinkle with seed, sprinkle a fine layer of soil over the top and water?!?! Keep moist and well ahh???

Thats all I do. I keep a bag of potting mix in the garage and every now and then put some in a deepish lid, sprinkle some seed on, a little more potting mix on top, water every day and I keep mine on my window sill which gets the morning sun. Even looks cute on the window sill when its growing! Generally begins to sprout in a few days and is ready for "budgie mowing" in about 2 weeks!!
