Posted August 14, 200817 yr With our busy life styles and ever growing list of things "to do" - there is just not enough time in the day to do it all. So what are some of the time saving things you do to get though each day?? I hate cooking so I always cook 2 meals at the same time so i only need to cook every second night. I dry all my clothes inside on clothes areas so i don't have to move them until they are dry. I hang all tops and shirts (that don't stretch out of shape) up on hangers when wet and dry them hanging in the laundry. - this also makes them really easy to iron if they need it at all That's just a few i can think of that i do. I am a stay at home mum of 2 and i struggle to keep the house clean on a daily basis - I would be highly embarrassed if someone came to the door for coffee right now How do you domestic goddesses/gods with like 4 kids and pets and jobs etc etc etc do it - what is your secrets!!! August 14, 200817 yr See it's all about setting this out and having an order. So I do the daily things Birds, Dogs, dishes, cooking Then I say on Monday nights I am going to clean the bathrooms Tueaday is the bedrooms Wednesday is the living rooms Thursday is the kitchen Friday is my day off Weekend is constant cleaning and changing sheets. Then I spot clean each day. i think where most people go wrong is they try to clean the whole house each day forget it not going to happen so just make sure you have your known trouble areas clean them on a daily base and just set time asside for one room each day and you will get there. Also de clutter... the less stuff you have the less time it takes to clean it up!
August 14, 200817 yr I agreed with AV in that it is too hard to try to clean the house in one day, i do a certain job each day of the week. i have 4 kids so i started my day at 6:30am with washing and making school lunches. Once the oldest 2 are at school i get the younger 2 set up playing and then i do the rounds of the animals and then start on house work. I have been a stay at home mum now for 13 years so i have a good routine worked out. I have a slow cooker which i love and saves me rushing around at night doing baths and helping with homework while trying to cook tea. I find that with some clothes if you put them in the dryer for a few minutes after washing they do not need ironing. I clean the shower while i am in it, saves me getting wet clothes and saves time. I make my kids clean their rooms at night before going to bed because then it is easier for me to clean the room the next day and avoids a build up of clutter. They are just a few things i do so at least i can get some me time during the day.
August 14, 200817 yr I don't have any time savers as such but I write a list and check things off as I do them. I don't stress anymore about not having enough time to do things, I learnt that a long time ago from my Maternal Child Health Nurse. When my third child was just 3 weeks old the Maternal Child Health Nurse arrive to weigh my son and found me crying in the middle of my kitchen floor with a scrubing brush in hand and I was so upset because I couldn't get a mark of the floor. I had 3 children in nappies and was trying to be a 'Supermum'. She told me that the mark would still be on the floor tomorrow along with the cleaning, washing and cooking. Focus on your children being happy and everything will follow. My youngest is now 3 1/2 and goes to daycare 2 days a week. Mondays I clean all day and Thursday I shop, so there is still no me time but one day maybe
August 14, 200817 yr Author wow you are a very organised bunch!! I feel like i am going nothing but cleaning all the time, and when i am not cleaning up i am looking at the messy house stressing about the mess. But by looking at your routines, it seems that its quite normal and, your right, the mess will never go away - I vote for a house keeper!!!!!
August 14, 200817 yr As you all know, I'm just starting out on the whole 'keeping house' thing and this is very handy. I too would not be happy if someone poped in for a cuppa... I've had a very busy few days and the place is a MESS!!! I'm not big on cleaning and get lazy... then I run out of plates or spoons and HAVE to do the dishes lol... (I can't believe I just admitted that)

August 14, 200817 yr I do not know what i would do without my dishwasher, when i had my 3 child my hubby bought me a dishwasher.
August 14, 200817 yr This comes down to a cost thing but you might consider it. Ironing pick up, basically a company that picks up clean clothes irons them and drops them off the next day. get a cleaner in one day a week if you can so you can have the day off. If you can't afford a cleaner talk to your family. My mum comes down one day a week and cleans house, changes sheets and does all the washing and ironing. So instead of paying a cleaner we pay her for a days worth of work. Dad likes the outing (he goes down the street with his guide dog and gets a coffee and a pie) mum likes the extra cash and I would rather pay her! Even if it is only once a month getting someone in for the day so you can come home to a clean house and do something with you kids is worth it if you can find the money. Parting with $100 once a month might sound like alot but trust me there is nothing better then taking a day off and knowing when you get home everything is clean and for some reason once it's clean it seems to stay cleaner longer!
August 14, 200817 yr I like a clean kitchen but the rest.... I look at; think about; then pack the dogs in the car and take them out the bush for the day. Buy clothes that dont need ironing- or if you hang out straight away and fold up once dry they look pretty good. Freeze chopped onion or vegies that havent been used in sandwich bags- saves time chopping them when in a rush.
August 14, 200817 yr I have a great time saving. Wait till hubby gets home from work and tell him you had a hectic day and ran out of time to vacuum and give him a loving look and asked him if he will please please vacuum for you, works every time and my hubby even ends up mopping as well. :rip:
