Posted August 11, 200817 yr Hi Everyone, Been a while since I've posted on here, I try and get on at least once a day to read comments by everyone. I've just about finished renovations to my Aviary/Bird room. I have made my bird room bigger as I'm now breeding Budgies and Finches and wanted a little more room. I successfully bred about 5 young Dominant Pieds last year from 2 pairs which I am looking at Breeding. They are all Green/Yellow Colour. Now if I wanted to try and breed these birds and produce some Grey and Blue Dominant Pieds what colour budgies should I pair them with? Below is a summary of their parents. Pair 1 Cock - Green/Yellow Dominant Pied Hen - Olive Produced 1) Green/Yellow Dominant Cock 2) Green Cock 3) Olive Green/Yellow Dominant Cock 4) Green/Yellow Dominant Hen Pair 2 Cock - Green Hen - Green/Yellow Dominant Pied Produced 1) Green/Yellow Dominant Cock 2) Violet or Mauve Cock Any help would be appreciated.
August 11, 200817 yr You will not get any blue budgies from green (yellow based) budgies unless they are split to blue. If you want blue (white based) budgies you need to get some blue parents
August 11, 200817 yr You can buy blue birds to breed blue birds or you can buy one green and one blue and breed them. You will get green birds that are split blue. When this generation is old enough to breed, they have the potential to produce blue birds. As it stands at the moment, with the current breeding pairs you have discussed, like Liv says, no chance to breed blue birds
August 11, 200817 yr Pair two produced a violet so they must be split blue. Aviary or cabinet breeding ?
August 11, 200817 yr Author Pair two produced a violet so they must be split blue. Aviary or cabinet breeding ? All my birds are Cabinet Bred. Here is a picture when he was a baby SO what you are all saying is, If I breed the young from the pairs to a Grey or Bloue Bird then their offspring should be split blue and thats when I will get different Dominant Colours?
August 12, 200817 yr Author Now if i am right with what i said previously, can I then start introducing Yellow Face Birds to DOminant Pieds or wont that work? Can you get a Dominant Pied Yellow Face in Blues or Greys. One last question, I am also getting into Crested Varieties, If i keep breeding can I introduce Cresteds to Dominant Pieds?
August 12, 200817 yr Grey and Green are both dominant so if you breed a blue bird to a grey bird that is no split blue, then all the young will be grey, but split blue. You will only get blue birds from visually grey or visually green birds when they grey or green birds are split to blue. If you get 2 green birds that are both split blue, you will only have a 25% chance of getting a blue bird. Yellow Faced birds are a different story all together. Yes, you can get a dominant pied in blue or grey with a yellow face. Yes, you can introudce crested varieties to dominant pieds. You should not breed a crested bird to a crested bird. You should breed a crested bird to a normal.
