March 20, 200916 yr Author Been a while since I posted so I thought I'd do an update. Could a moderator or admin please change my thread title to: Pearce's Budgerigar Breeding Blog Then on the space underneath could you put: With regular updates. Thankyou. The birds are all going very well. another chick hatched today making that 13 chicks so far this year. Grey green hen is now sitting on 3 fertile eggs, hasnt layed any new ones for 4 days. Lets hope these 3 are the best. Pet pair 1 has 3 chicks, 1 green spangle opaline, 1 cobalt or violet recessive pied spangle opaline possible cinnamon (We are still trying to figure out the mutation) and one with no feathers. Aviaries are going well, just finished laying sand in the main one today, birds are loving it. Sealed some holes in the roof aswell and got blinds to block rain coming in. Bought anew 25kg bag of hulled oats today aswell and some sunflower seeds for the cockatiels. I have another shed that I am transfering into an aviary as we speak. I am thinking of either getting finches or a pair of princess parrots. I really love kaz's princess parrots which influenced my decision. I saw some at the pet shop today, not cheap at all. For 1 Pink and green princess parrot they were asking $450. He did not look to healthy either. I bought some triple c antibiotic today aswell so I will start using that also. My fingers are now very sore from typing so I am going to watch law and order. About 80 views away from 10000. Edited March 20, 200916 yr by Pearce

March 20, 200916 yr 13 chicks, cool. have you just started a breeding round this year or finishing up shortly?
March 20, 200916 yr Author Started in Early december and will end when these chicks leave the breeding cages. Doubt I will breed through winter this year.
March 27, 200916 yr Author Hi all. My bird seed seller has gone overseas for a few months so now Im out of bird seed with no supplier. I want 20kg's worth. Does anyone know any good brands to get? some of the seed bags are full of seed the birds dont eat, and I know that some birds will starve themselves if they change seeds. but I have no choice. Can someone recomend a good seed for them/

March 28, 200916 yr Author I pay $20 for a 25kg bag of seed mixxed by a exhibition breeder, all the best seeds and none of those big filler seeds. I went to 3 pet shops today and for a 5 kg bag of seed the average price was $15. What a joke.
April 9, 200916 yr Author Have not updated in a fair while. I have 9 breeding pairs down to breed. I am not going to go through each one but I will give some highlights of some pairs. Grey green pair have 6 eggs, all fertile. THe hen is not the best incubator but I beleive she has done her job correctly and the eggs should hatch soon. Yf cinnamon opaline hen paired to skyblue cock. I am trying this hen again just to see if she will breed, their is still hope. Pet pair 1 - on second clutch now all 3 babies. They are all 45 days old so they will be seperated today. Few other pairs all going well. Be sure to view my pictures in the picture section
April 10, 200916 yr Author I'll see if I can take the record for most viewed thread on the forum. I'm going to start updating daily again.
April 10, 200916 yr Author Baby from grey green pair has been fed well. Looking good, In the big nest their were originally 8 babies. Mother is a skyblue yellowface and father is a cobalt normal. 6 of them are not yellowface. One has just turned out to be a yellow face so I'm so happy. The other is too young to tell.
April 11, 200916 yr Hi Pearce and great work. Remember that every picture tells a story, more please...
April 11, 200916 yr Author Thanks very much Richo I wil be sure to post more pictures.Tomatoe's are flowering and will grow huge tomatoes very soon.Silverbeet is going strong the budgies are loving it.A sunflower popped up in the garden alsoSome seedsAnd some babies
April 13, 200916 yr Author Back from the beach today to see I have won the bbc member of the year award. Thankyou to all. It was raining the entire time down their so not much was done. Especially because it was easter sunday and not too many shops were open. The unit was okay, the tv was the smallest I've ever seen. The good thing that came out of it was I picked up about 15 thousand cuttlefish bone from the beach. I was walking along the beach with a mate and their were these popping sounds and we couldnt figure out what they were. Then we noticed they are thousands of bluebottles popping. One stung me for the first time ever, stung for quite a while to. The birds are all going well.
April 13, 200916 yr Sounds like you had a good break Pearce. With fifteen thousand cuttlefish collected you had better post some out to BBC members ( not )
April 13, 200916 yr Author I over exaggerated a bit their kaz but I picked up sooo many . The beach was covered in them. Edited April 13, 200916 yr by Pearce
April 14, 200916 yr Author Stopping breeding for a while. Once these chicks are weaned that is it. Next year the babies will be old enough to breed and I really dont know anyone who sells quality birds in my area. I dont think I'm ever going to show my birds, but I will always prefer exhibition type birds over pet types. It's for this reason I will stay with exhibition budgerigars, I just wont show them.
April 14, 200916 yr Why on earth do you have to be limited by "birds in your area" ? Many show breeders will ship birds. Many show breeders culls are around $30 each upwards, and it only costs around $50-60 to ship birds across Australia. You are limited only by your imagination Pearce.
April 14, 200916 yr Author By the time I take everything I need to pay out of my payslip I barley have anything left. I have to save money to pay for any new birds and at this stage I cannot afford $60 shipping fee.
April 15, 200916 yr Author all pet budgies sold today. 4 cockatiels remain to be sold. Going to an auction on saturday and hope to come home with a few birds. Edited April 15, 200916 yr by Pearce
