Did you make up the solution with the coopex ?

I am hoping you will have a good result Pearce

Thankyou KAZ

Yes the coopex is water soluble powder and I made it up as instructed. I havent put it on the birds yet, as the hardware store bloke told me not to.

When i had the feather mites (not red mite) I made half the coopex sachet into 5L of water and dipped all my birds up to their necks in it. You have to do it in the morning and make sure the birds don't get chilled with any winds or drafts. i was lucky that the day i did it, it was about 36 degrees and the birds were happy to get wet.

Your mite issue sounds so server i would recommend you dip all your birds, and then dip all your bird stuff in the coopex. then spray everything else that can not be dipped until it is soaking wet. Just don't get any in the birds food or water and make sure it is all dry before you put the birds back.

Then when its all dry from the first treatment (after and hour or so) use the other half of the sachet to 2.5L of water and use it to spray the cages, perches and nesting boxes etc again, until there are NO dry spots. Do not spray any deep litter etc. the cages have to be completely empty first and don't forget to treat the perches as well.

Hi

I have 2 babies in one nest (2 weeks) and 3 babies and 2 eggs in another nest (2 weeks)

Can I move the 3 babies and 2 eggs from the nest and put them in the nest with 2 babies? Will the hen know the eggs and babies arent hers? Will she feed them?

In the nest with thre chicks and eggs........are the eggs fertile ? Because if the chicks are 2 weeks old those eggs should have hatched by now shouldnt they ? You should be fine to shift the chicks, but as the hen with two chicks and no eggs has had no eggs for 2 weeks then she wont set about trying to hatch the two you put in there :)

Yes your right KAZ.

The eggs are heavy so I'm not sure if they are definitly infertile. Will the hen smash the eggs because they are not hers?

I dont want to break the eggs and find babies inside...

If its been two weeks and no hatchings the eggs are no good. Dont put them with the chicks in the new nest ...the foster Mum wont look after them.

I have another question about fostering.

Could 2 5 day old chicks be fostered to a nest with 3 16 day old chicks?

Ive never had neon in a avairy situation before but when I released her todya, I noticed she cannot fly very well.

She cannot fly up, when she flys she always sinks down, she cannot get up to a perch in the avairy.

You know a budgies flights, how they go straight down, neons dont, they cross over, and I'm just wondering if this could be why she cannot fly??

Has anyone ever encountered a budgie with crossed flight feathers before?

Sounds like french moult issues...a french moult survivor perhaps ?

When I first got her remember how I said she stood wierd, I cannot find the picture anymore. All her babies so far have had stress moult or french moult, so maybe she is a french moult survivor.

Thanks kaz.

YES......along with their feather issues they seem to have other health issues. Ones I have had like this have a very limited lifespan. Sometimes kinder to have them euthenased. You may also find they have epilepsy fits and heart flutters.

I am not a show breeder, but to me it sounds like you are doing everything right. I would cover the entrance of each nest boxe for a few days. I have heard this is a very effective way to get eggs happening  I would also give calcivet in their water on the days you give normal water too so they have a calcium supplement every day. Finally, remove the cabbage (cabbage is toxic) from the diet and replace with carrotThere is nothing at all wrong with your questions by the way :D
i did not know cabbage was toxic i have always used it in place of lettus ... woopsi am so sorry to here of all the trouble you are having i only just read your whole post i use a spray mix of coriander and lemmon grass to keep spider mite at bay... it does work although it is more a proventadive then a cure... so when you do clear your mite probblem up try bringing these two herbs (fresh) in a pot to simmer then leave to seep for up to 4 hours then drain the water and use in a spray bottle on everything also if you ever get stuck with spider mite (redmite) again at dusk throw a freash clean white sheet over your aviry or breeding boxes the mite are atracted to the white sheet then in the early morning go and wrap the sheet up you will see the mite on it burn the sheet
