Hi all

the babies from summers first clutch are roughly two months old and are already starting to moult, is this a bad thing? Eg: Lack of minerals/vitamins or somthing? Can anything cause moulting to start early?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of seed feeder:

Image038.jpg

It is a gravity feeder and it would be excellent to use becausethe birds couldnt waste the seeds and their wouldnt be seed husks everywhere

Are these good to use? Any tips on them would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

Changing their food could bring on a moult, have you changed your seed recently?

As for the feeder I've never used one.

Yes, but there are better types than that one. Those have a habit of clogging up......so always check that they are flowing freely.

It varies...time of year, diet etc. The second batch of Omelette's chicks moulted early too :laughter:

okay Thankyou KAZ I am going to check a few places out to see if they sell proper quality ones. What kind of seed dispensers do you use?

I use the open tray kind of ones but I find that Im having to constantly blow away the husks, and some birds like to dig out all the seed from the tray and chuck it around.

I use various ones depending on the birds and their likes and dislikes. I have jar feeders with the plastic base, I have the D cup kinds that clip onto the side oif the cage and if I have holding cages I use larger dishes.

okay Thankyou I have seen the jar feeders before and they look very good.

Hi all

Baby 2's crop is full, except the crop milk is not yellow, it is green.

The mother has been eating bok choi so I think this is the cause. Does this matter?

Does not matter :baby: ... also, a question from awhile back about the hulled oats... they will de-husk them and eat the inside.

Hi all

Budgies are going very well.

Today I went out to the breeding shed to find beast (cockatiel) sitting on top of the metal cabinet I store everything in. He has bitten through the breeding cage wire and gotten out. Luckily the door was closed and he couldnt escape. I have fixed the breeding cage and all is well .
