August 13, 200816 yr Author Thanks all. Is it possible to get yellow face blue budgies from sunny and bull? If not, what will the colours of the chicks be? Also, What wing type will the chicks have? Edit: I just went out to the avairy and I checked the nesting boxes and blooper has laid an egg! I was not expecting it to happen so soon, the nesting box has only been in the cage 7 days. I hope it is fertile. Thanks Edited August 13, 200816 yr by pearce
August 15, 200816 yr Author Hello all Sumo (male) has a yellow ring around each of his eyes (not the iris) and I have never seen it before on him. Does he have an eye infection? He has never had this before, if you look on the front page of this thread, he has no yellow ring. Is this normal or is it somthing serious. I am taking him to the vet this afternoon to get checked out. He is normal in every other way, flying around, chirping with his friends, preening the female in his cage. Does anyone know what is wrong or what causes this.. http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9585/p1010032rl5.jpg - That is a picture although it is quite blurry, he never sits still. Thanks very much
August 15, 200816 yr Pearce, has he had anything Yellow, Corn, a Mineral block, Pollen, .... Hmmm Never mind you are taking him to the vet Let us know how it went Edited August 15, 200816 yr by maesie Spelling
August 15, 200816 yr Author I went to the vet and he did not know what was wrong. I was told just to bathe the eye in cold tea and watch for signs of it getting worse. I feed the birds corn 4 times a week and I was thinking that could be the reason why. I dont know how corn would give them yellow rings around their eyes though. Blooper has also laid another egg today.
August 18, 200816 yr Author Another update: Blooper now has 3 eggs and she and muggs are both in the nesting box incubating. I am taking sumo back to the vet as he still has yellow rings around his eyes and I have noticed he is doing somthing wierd. He gets himself into the corner of the cage and bobs up and down, like he is mating the perch or somthing. I have found some articles on "tail bobbing in birds" and I am reading them now to see if that is what he is doing. He could just be humping the perch or it could be somthing else. I will let you know with the progress.
August 18, 200816 yr YAY on the eggs mate Wooo Hoooo Tail bobbing or is he in motion with the branch LOL
August 19, 200816 yr Author Another update: Grunt and sumo have now been in the breeding cage 10 days. They have bonded very well and are always preening eachother etc.. Sumo (male) goes in the nesting box once in a while but I have never seen grunt in their. Grunt and sumo both sit on the bottom of the cage looking out and trying to break out. They have done this since the first day I put them in their and they are still trying to escape. Sumo is the wierdest budgie I have ever had, he sits their for hours mating the perch in the corner and rubs his head along it all day. Sunny and bull are bonding and sunny uses the nest box alot. Lemon and lime use the nesting box all the time but have had no eggs as of yet. Blooper has had 5 eggs now and I can see veins so I'm hoping they are fertile.
August 25, 200816 yr Author Hi Update: Sunny has laid an egg and grunt has laid 2 now. Off topic: I put my only pair of cockatiels in an aviary by themselves and the female laid an egg the next day. Off topic Question: Does anybody know if budgie leg rings can be used on cockatiels? Edited August 25, 200816 yr by pearce

August 25, 200816 yr Lovely birds I had a cock who was always getting jiggy with his perch and I was told this isnt a good thing, cause they spend too much time um, getting off and not tending to the hen. He was bonded with his hen and they preened and he fed her etc but after 5 weeks, they still hadnt laid anything, so I have put them out in the aviary again. I did have another boy who "liked" his water feeder. They didnt have a lot of success as a couple either, but she did hatch one egg, unfortunately though she didnt feed the baby and when I checked it at the end of the day it was already dead. So anyway, he must have had some success with her or they wouldnt have any babies at all. Anyway, that's my little story of "boys who do objects". I dont know what others have found or experiences they have had........

It would be a good source of calcium.. Edited August 26, 200816 yr by pearce
August 26, 200816 yr Does anybody know if cheese is good for budgies? It would be a good source of calcium.. The very best source of calcium for budgies is powdered crushed eggshell.
August 27, 200816 yr Author okay I will try the eggshells thanks very much. CAn someone tell me the gender of chomper please. He/she is a recessive pied and over a year and a half old. Thanks very much. P.s Is chomper moulting?
August 27, 200816 yr If Chomper hasnt had a brown cere by this age it makes him a BOY. Moulting...yes, there are some pin feathers starting out
August 27, 200816 yr In regard to the making out with the perch, last time I put birds down to breed, I was a little concerned abotu one of my birds, as he would always go and make out with the cage front. He turned out to be a perfect father and produced wonderful offspring, raising them well and taking care of his mate well. Just give him time.
August 27, 200816 yr Author Thanks very much for all the replies. Could someone tell me the mutation of summer please. I think she is dark green or olive green spangle. Wings: Cere: Does it look like summer has scaly face to you? I have iverctmin to treet it. Edited August 27, 200816 yr by pearce
August 28, 200816 yr Author Hi Does anyone know what type of bird summer is? I downloaded a record keeping program for budgies and I need to know exactly what her mutation is. I think she is a dark green spangle or maybe grey green I'm not to sure. Can the white/silver cheek patches on her head tell you what mutation she is? Also, does it look like she has scaly face or is that just an in condition cere? Thanks very much

Possibly the start of scaly face too as you have noticed.
August 28, 200816 yr Author Thanks very much kaz. Update: My 2 cockatiels have already laid 4 eggs. They seem so much easier to breed than budgies, 1 day after I put them in a breeding cage they started laying. My budgies have been in their for 3-4 weeks now but 2 pairs havent even used the nesting box. They are bonded so I will keep them in their. What are the chances of 4 different pairs of budgies not laying within 4 weeks.
