Hi

How can the chicks be yellowface/golden face if the mother is dark green cinamon spangle and father is yellow recesive pied? Could summer actually be a yellow face?

Yellowface is easily hidden in a green budgie, because a green budgie always has a yellow face. A normal green budgie has a yellowface but isnt a yellowface. A normal green budgie can however carry yellowface.

Hi I recently bought a worming supplement from the shop. Is it safe to use for breeding birds? And 5 week old babies?

It is a mixture I add into their water for 24 hours. What are your opinions? Should I wait? Or do it now?

Thanks

I, personally would wait...but that's just me :( I'm unsure of its safeness etc... Other will know I'm sure.

Hi

When show budgies are 6 weeks old should they have boofy heads like adult show budgies?

Do my baby budgies look like show budgies? Or pet type?

The parents are both show budgies but recessive pied brings the size of babies down doesnt it?

Also, what age can budgies start to fly? The babies have full wings and flap them like mad but they cannot fly yet, Is this normal? I could not find any informationabout this in the budgie milestones topic so I asked here. If anyone is getting annoyed by all my questions please tellme I will stop immediatley.

Thanks.

How good your babies are show-wise would depend on how good the parents were....show-wise. The better type parents when paired correctly should produce better chicks than themselves. Its all down to selecting the right birds to breed with carrying the right kind of features for a show bird. If the parents havent "boofy heads " then the chicks wont either.

In saying that, you get some surprises out of a nestbox depending on the genetics in the parents background also.

Recessive does not bring down the size of the babies but you must start with decent size recessive show types to begin with.

Babies fly either at leaving the nestbox or within a week or so after that if they have the space to play and try out their wings.

Never apologise for asking questions...thats what we are here for ...to help each other out :)

Thank you very much KAZ-JImmy

I have read that baby dark green babies always have blue suffusion but it dies away as they age. Is this true? Could the baby just be a dark green instead of a yellowface?

I had help from a friend who held the baby while I took the photo.

pearce, the blue goes away because the yellow molts more into the body making the bird look like a green series but really is a blue series, the bird that you are holding is a YF2.

Pearce...it is very unwise to hold a baby budgie out in the open like you have here in these photos. Many a baby budgie has taken off when a new breeder did not realise it could fly yet.

okay I'm sorry, I will take them in the avairy before letting them out from now on.

Hi

As of today all the babies have come out of the box on their own. They are eating corn kernels as we speak. The eldest baby is 33 days old and the youngest baby is 29 days old. Should I put them back in the nest box to be sure or are they fine on the ground? Their is an upside down ice cream container for them to hide in and their is plenty of seed, millet, corn, calciumbell, water on the ground. I do not want to wake up tomorow and find them all dead because they cannot eat yet.. What would you do?

Thanks/

I only put them back if they arent fully feathered. Sounds like you have everything covered with the container on the ground and the food. The dad will keep feeding them too on the floor of the breeder cage. Well done with your fledged chicks :D

Seed spread on the floor of the cage is a good idea.

Most of the babies are starting to look like males now. Very bright pink ceres. When they were young their ceres had white rings but now they are all bright pink with no other colours.

French Moult or stress moult yes...P1010026-6.jpg

If a stress moult the feathers will grow back within a couple of weeks. If french moult they wont.

Re the tiel...you need specialised advice on that...the vet will be able to advise you. A pity

okay THanks KAZ. WAs I right with the sexes?

Also, If the young baby (29 days) is in the bottom of the breeding cage and calls for food, will the mother go down and feed her?
