October 14, 200816 yr Author Thank you all. Does anyone know if I can foster a cockatiel baby (1 day old) into a budgies nest? The cockatiel baby hatched some time today and has not been fed yet. I hope the mother realises what to do and feeds him but I amjust getting prepared. Could I put the baby cockatiel in with baby (2 day old) budgies? Would the budgies feed him? He looks different to a baby budgie, he has alot of hair. Thanks
October 14, 200816 yr Give the baby tiel a feed using Libby's crop milk ---> HERE Feed morning, noon and evening until the mum takes over. If the tiel hen isnt feeding by tomorrow than consider fostering. a wren can rear a cuckoo so guess it could be possible.... but in saying that a wren is no where near as intelligent as a budgie. foster to a budgie as a last resort as it's not known if it will work. The cockatiel chick will grow a lot bigger than the budgie chicks so it would take most of the parents food and time making the other chicks go without. If you were going to try it, foster the baby budgies to another nest and make the tiel the only chick in the nest. The tiel chick will be better with its tiel parents so i really hope your hen starts to feed it soon.
October 15, 200816 yr at the moment, when it is young, it might be possible to foster it, but once it starts growing, the adult budgies will reject it, and may attack it
October 15, 200816 yr Author Hi The second cockatiel baby hatched today and they have both been fed. Neons fourth also hatched today. Cockatiel babys look very different to baby budgie. Baby cockatiels look more like miniature baby chickens. Thanks for the help
October 15, 200816 yr Good to hear your baby tiels are being fed and you dont have the stress of fostering them
October 15, 200816 yr Author Thank you all. I will try get the pictures after tafe tomorow. I cant take them tonight because if I annoy the mothers, they might not go back in the nest box tonight and the chicks will get very cold.
October 16, 200816 yr Author Hi all I have taken a few photos. Some of the chicks look like they have splayed legs but maybe it is just because they are not developed yet? The eldest has yellow feathers and I dont know if its blue or black feathers aswell. I am going to say black because both the mother and father would have to be split blue to have blue offspring right? The cockatiel babys ^ THanks
October 16, 200816 yr awww. hope they don't have splayed legs poor little tackers... They are very cute... even the teils which I'm not usually a fan of
October 16, 200816 yr Looking Fantastic there Pearce .... Nice well feed chicks .. And a rather fluffy pom pom in there too ..
October 16, 200816 yr Pearce they are looking great. Most babies are unsteady on their feet and dont tuck them under themselves. First sign of splayed legs is redness at the joints like the worst kind of rheumatism / arthritis. All looking fantastic and I see no signs of splayed legs from those photos. October 17, 200816 yr Author Hi all The babies are all doing well and have all been fed. Sumo and grunt have been in a breeding cage since 18th of september and their are no signs of eggs. I have not seen them mate and their are no big droppings. Do you think I should release them into the avairy? They are both in condition. Any advice appreciated. Bull and sunny have also been in the breeding cage since 18th of september. Their is no sign of breeding between this pair. They are affectionate towards eachother but never do anything. The last time I tried to breed these two they did nothing. They just sit around all day. The hen is 3 1/5 years old so maybe they are just to old? Should I remove this pair aswell? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for your time

A month in the breeding cage and no action... sounds like they aren't interested. Are you 100% sure they are ALL in breeding condition? Give them a break and try them again later if you like :hap:
October 17, 200816 yr Author okay Thanks very much Maesie I will do that. Bull and sunny preen eachother but that is about it. Maybe I just leave sunny in the avairy for the rest of her life (she is 3.5 years old) and next year I will try bull again.

Maybe they just need a break, some yummy food and a good fly :hap:
October 17, 200816 yr Author Thanks Maesie. They have been released into the avairy and so far are enjoying themselves. I am going to check the eldest 3 babies for splayed legs tomorow. I am confident they dont have splayed legs but its best to be sure. I will keep you updated.
October 18, 200816 yr Author Today neons 3rd and fourth babies hatched.. One is extremley small. I think he may have hatched to early. He has been fed. I just hope he has the strength to keep calling for his mother to feed him.
October 18, 200816 yr hopefully he/she will make it. did yuo get a chance to check the others for splayed legs?
October 18, 200816 yr Author Thanks Jimmy. I checked the others for splayed legs and they are not red at the joints as KAZ said. So Hopefully my first time breeding birds in cabinets is sucessfull.
October 18, 200816 yr Author Some pictures. October 20, 200816 yr Author Unfortunatly today the young early hatched baby passed away. He was very small and hatched 3 days before he was meant to. Maybe I should have hand fed him or somthing but I checked twice a day and he had been fed. Maybe he was trampled or somthing.. RIP
