I am now a member of the Ipswich City budgerigar club. I bought 20 rings today and saw all the birds at the show. They were all amazing quality birds. I did not stay long as I had to go into brisbane but it was a fun enjoyable time.

I am glad you had a good time and are now a club member :D Its a great way to get enthusiatic and to get additional help and access to better quality birds. ;)

Kaz I seperate my cocks from the hens but only 3 weeks before I put them down and over the breeding season after that I put them all together. BUT i do have a couple of infertile cocks with the hens to keep them active and on their feet. ;)

Hey whays pbfd?

Psittacine beak and feather disease. Similar to french moult but worse.

Beaks grow very long and do not stop growing, vents dirty all the time, birds find it hard to breathe... etc.

Its a very rare condition and some how I managed to breed it.

Dont know what I am going to do.

That sounds awful maybe you should cull the birds that bred it before it takes over or is it contagious?

The parents were euthanized and so were the chicks. It its contagious and highly deadly. Birds with pbfd live in constant pain and unfortunately their is no cure.

I that sounds horrible, good luck with your breeding Pearce :budgiedance:

did you get them vet cheaked to find this out ?

also daddy long legs are the only spider that kill the white tail spider and its not that their mouth is to small to bit us its that our skin is to hard for them to penatrate and they brake their fangs

if you have this beak and feather thing will you need to get all birds tested

whats the procedure involved ?

It's not curable.

that was not what i was asking

i was asking how do you go about making sure it had not spread and did a vet diagnose the birds efected and how ? what ? is the procederue of making sure it does not spread is it air borne so on

how can you be sure its not going to afect the rest of your flock?

I look for the symptoms and isolate the birds that have it. Vet did not diagnose it, members of various forums did.

I know that the UK forums have said it is PBFD but most often that doesnt affect budgies as much as it does parrots. It could be french moult. Only a vet diagnosis will determine what you are dealing with.

3rd 09 show budgie rung today.

This thread will be a journal of my progress. Not many people look in this thread anymore, probably because their are so many posts. I will post my pictures in the pictures section and any questions I have will be asked in seperate topics.

Feel free to comment or post on this thread.

Been 3 weeks since Grey green pair were introduced to the breeding cage. They are both showing interest so I will give it another week or 2.

New pair will be added tomorrow, a Grey dominant pied cock to a sky blue yellow face spangle hen. Pictures will follow.

The main aviary will also be lined with sand tomorrow.

Keeping you busy Pearce....have fun doing the sand...looks nice when it goes in. B)

I layed sand today and all the birds had to go in a small cage for 10 minutes.

I have been trimming the beak of the cockatiel with scissors beak every 2 weeks. Today I had a look and the beak has grown so much, it was so long if I had not cut it today it would have went down his throat and stopped him breathing. I will have to trim it every 3 days or so now.
