October 31, 200816 yr Author Hi The youngest is still developing his feathers, he has not been plucked. Kaz thought the baby cockatiel was a baby budgie and was being plucked, is this what you are thinking of Neat? I dont think the youngest baby budgie is being plucked but I'm not an expert? Thanks for your answer aswell, The nest box is outside the cage and I already have a safe house for the babys with food inside.

November 1, 200816 yr Author Hi I took some pictures of neon and thunders babies, I am hoping that someone can tell me gender and mutation. The pictures are very poor quality, I do not know why but when I do close up shots of the cere it just all blurs up. I think one baby is opaline and the other is normal. I think the normal is female and the opaline is a male. Thanks Edited November 1, 200816 yr by pearce
November 1, 200816 yr Looks like a green normal and a grey green opaline. Waiting for clearer pictures but I think both are hens.
November 1, 200816 yr Author Hi Last week one of my budgies escaped from the avairy. The next day I caught him sitting on the antenna of the house. Once I caught him I put him in a hospital cage right above chomper and summers breeder cage. Do you think the bird could have got a disease outside then when I put him in the hospital cage he gave it to chomper? If a bird escapes for a day does it need to be quarantined again before placed back in the avairy? I cant help but think chomper got a disease from this bird..

But the important thing here is a hospital cage needs to be in another place away from all birds. However, most diseases need an incubation period and even the worst ones seem to be 7-10 days or so to reveal active symptoms. And you said Chomper didnt display any symptoms. So, in this case...maybe not with regard to disease. I guess the only way to know is an autopsy.
November 1, 200816 yr Author okay KAZ I wasnt thinking when I put the hospital cage near the breeding cages. I just hope its not a disease that is going to spread to summer and the babies. If a bird escapes, does it need to be quarantined before released back into the avairy?

November 1, 200816 yr Author Thanks KAZ. I managed to take one not blurry picture this afternoon but it still is not the best. Can anyone tell the genders of the two babys. The opaline's name is checkers and the normals is chess. I have an olympus camera and when I try take photos of the cere it all goes blurry, other than that it is fine. I have tried using flash and the macro setting. Edited November 1, 200816 yr by pearce
November 1, 200816 yr Try taking the photos in natural light, with the macro setting you have used and NO flash. The flash makes it hard to see colours properly.
November 3, 200816 yr Author Hi I have yet another query. Most of my current avairy budgies are very scared of humans, I guess this was because they werent handled as babies. When the current baby budgies are released into the avairy, will they be afraid of me aswell? I handle each one every day hoping that they wont be afraid of me. I dont need them to be tame I just would like them to not fly away when ever I go in the avairy. I went to a breeders avairy yesterday and none of his show birds flew away when I walked inside. And he can catch his with his hands, that would be impossible with mine. So basically my question is, is it possible to have an avairy full of budgies that are not scared of humans and dont fly around like mad when ever I walk in, if so how do you do this?
November 3, 200816 yr Any baby budgie once free in an aviary will become "non tame" within about a week. Walking through an aviary a lot and under differing conditions will make aviary budgies less flighty as they get used to you. Depends on size of aviary too. Show type budgies are quieter and less energetic and flighty in most aviaries than pet types. Edited November 3, 200816 yr by KAZ
November 3, 200816 yr Author okay so eventually they all should get used to me. Im not saying I will ever show budgies but it is possible. If I put one of my current birds into a showcage and put it on display, it would fly around like mad and would probably be disqualifed instantly. How do you all keep your show budgies calm in the cage? THanks

November 3, 200816 yr Author Hi Is the blue pattern mixed through the green on this guys belly normal for a dark green bird? Or is he yellowface? Or rainbow? You can see it on his tail aswell.. More pictures. ^ could he be male do you think? His cere is bright pink. Edited November 3, 200816 yr by pearce
November 3, 200816 yr From which parents ? Also, you have used the flash again and asking what sex it is with a flash used is not good
November 3, 200816 yr Author Parents: Summer - Dark green cinnamon spangle Chomper - Yellow resesive pied I did not use flash for this one: He is the only one I wanted to make sure of his sex. Thanks
November 3, 200816 yr Author okay Thanks Kaz. Do you think This female is a rainbow? See the blue through his belly and tail.
November 3, 200816 yr okay Thanks Kaz.Do you think This female is a rainbow? See the blue through his belly and tail. No. Looks golden face type 2 blue or dark green. Since Summer was cinnamon its entirely possible she was a dark green but the cinnamon makes her appear lighter.... There seems to be yellowface involved in these chicks. Edited November 3, 200816 yr by KAZ
November 3, 200816 yr Author Hi okay so the chicks are yellow/golden face? Does that mean Once the chick gets older, I could breed her to a blue bird and the offspring would be green yellowfaces split blue? Then the following year I could breed the yellowface split blue with a blue normal and I could get yellowface blues? How can I be getting yellow face babies, would chomper and summer both have to be split yellowface? Or is summer a yellowface spangle? instead of a dark green spangle. Sorry if I am confusing you. I will post pictures of the babies when they have matured and hopefully we can figure out the mutations.
November 4, 200816 yr Author Hi How can the chicks be yellowface/golden face if the mother is dark green cinamon spangle and father is yellow recesive pied? Could summer actually be a yellow face?
