October 20, 200816 yr Unfortunatly today the young early hatched baby passed away. He was very small and hatched 3 days before he was meant to. Maybe I should have hand fed him or somthing but I checked twice a day and he had been fed. Maybe he was trampled or somthing.. RIP If the baby was too early a hatching these things happen. Sorry that it has made you feel sad
October 20, 200816 yr Sorry to lost the little bub. these things happen in breeding All your parents and babies are looking really good - you are doing great - well done
October 20, 200816 yr awww, sorry to hear about that. Keep your chin up. Heres hoping the rest goes well for you!
October 22, 200816 yr Author HI I have a mutation question. Here is a picture. As you can see the baby on the left has different wing markings than the babies on the right. I am thinking that the one on the left could be a different mutation? The parents are: Yellow recessive pied male, Dark green cinnamon spangle. I am thinking that the one on the left is spangle and the others are normal? Is this possible? Any thoughts on mutations would be greatley appreciated. Thanks
October 22, 200816 yr Your baby on the left appears to be a cinnamon spangle just like Mum If this is the mother Edited October 22, 200816 yr by KAZ
October 25, 200816 yr Author hi all I bought 5 show budgies today and have them all in quarantine for 45 days. I have treated 2 for scaly face. One of the females has somthing wrong with her foot. It is entirley closed up and she walks on stub of it... Her toes do not go around the perch. Is this because of lack of calcium? Is their somthing I can do to treat it? Thanks very much
October 25, 200816 yr look forward to seeing the new guys and gals. Not sure about the foot, Doesn't sound comfortable... for her to be walking on it sounds like it might have been a long term issue... good luck with her andthe rest

Also if she cannot grip the perch with one of her feet you may not be able to use her for breeding as she needs to grip with both feet with a male on top of her.
October 25, 200816 yr Author Hi I thought the exact same thing as you KAZ. So I asked the breeder and he said she is very fertile and has had 4 clutches before. Here are some pictures. Thanks very much
October 26, 200816 yr Author Hi Can anyone tell the gender of the 2 eldest babies? I think they are both males. Thanks very much More pics. Edited October 26, 200816 yr by pearce
October 26, 200816 yr Good luck with the hen who has a disabled foot. If you pair her watch the male as if he has having troubles mounting her properly you could try putting flat perches in or even AI if you wanted.
October 26, 200816 yr that babies are cute, they look like hens to me but I am not that great at sexing them at an early age like others.
October 26, 200816 yr awww thanks for the pics they look adorable. Good luck with the rest of the breeding... I'm going to fence sit on this one... could be male... could be female...
October 26, 200816 yr Author Thanks very much everyone. I thought the babies were male because the cere is a pinkish colour and their is no white ring around the nostrils? Maybe they are too young to be sexed?
October 26, 200816 yr Author Thanks KAZ Thats excellent. The males in my avairy outnumber the females by far.
October 27, 200816 yr Great photos! The one above is sooooooo cute. You must enter it into Budgie of the Month. Edited October 27, 200816 yr by maesie
October 27, 200816 yr Author Thankyou Maesie. Can I have more than one entry? I think I may have made an entry a couple of weeks ago but I cant remember.

October 27, 200816 yr Author I'm not sure kaz. Maybe he is not up to the stage of getting feathers on his head? Do you think he has been plucked? The other one does not have many feathers on his head either so maybe they are just to young?

The other one does not have many feathers on his head either so maybe they are just to young? No...should have. Something is going on ....either plucked or a feather issue. Check for spots of blood anywhere on the chick. Check to see if the feathers are falling out freely. The reason I ask is I have experience of this and I need to know if you have a plucking parent or something else. Edited October 27, 200816 yr by KAZ
