Nightfrights!

Featured Replies

My inside budgies have started night frighting a few times a night, every night :D

There is no sign of rodents or insects. Their cage is on a stand about 2 feet off the ground.

I don't cover my birds, but i never have and there has been no issue until about a week ago. I don't understand why they are doing it, nothing has changed. It scares the life out of me to wake up to them all flapping around crazy

I have been leaving the light on for them , but then they start to sing at 2am :D

What can I do to settle their sleep agian?? 2232.gif

Try covering the cage it might work. Also do you have any other pets that could be waking them up? Is there light from a road that could flash into the area they are in? Are there any flashing lights or standby lights they might be able to see? I know a lady who's budgie was fine for years then one day she moved her couch and he would wake up in the middle of the night and see the standby light of the TV and freak out, couch got moved back no longer an issue.

Sorry that is most likley no help.

..... mmmm. Now that you mention the blinking lights etc. hadn't thought of that. We haven't got any blinking lights, but we did buy some new bar stools this week which are made from chrome. They could be reflecting some light and spooking the birds.

Thanks AV. I will cover them tonight and see how they go :D

Let us know how it goes, mine have never had a night fright. I use 2 sheets to keep them covered so it is nice and dark.

I covered the end of their cage where they could see the barstools and there were no night frights last night!!! Thanks AV!!

Isn't that just too funny! Sensitive little things, aren't they. Good sleuthing...glad you found the solution. My little baby girl got night frights for one night only, but I just bought a house and moved in, so I figured this was the problem. I came downstairs and crooned in her ear and she went right back to sleep and it hasn't happened again (9 sleeps later).
