Crazy Bird Lady Strikes Again!

So I am wondering around doing my birds today and there is a knock on the door I am in my PJs in my garage/breeding room so i go out the front and there is a lady with a bird in a cage.

Long story short, she bought the bird a few months ago from a pet store they told her the bird was only about 5 weeks old (she has a green leg ring so lie) anyway she is a big nasty hen who loves to bite and the kids are now afraid of her. She took her back to the store and they would not take her back. She then heard about me and brought the bird to me as the RSPCA told her that if she handed it in there would be a $30 fee (more then she paid for the bird) and the bird would be put down.

So I go to the store with her, I explain the situation but no avail. I then spoke to the lady and her kids and it was decided that while she tries to sort this out the bird can live at my house. The hen named Lucy has the LONGEST nails I have ever seen on a bird so going to have to work out how to clip them or call Ivan and see if he can do it. She is not a bad hen (I am pretty sure she is a hen)

Anyway if we can't get a resolution with the pet store then when some of my pet types are born she and the kids can come and pick one out and I will make sure it gets extra taming.

Nice looking hen. Looks unhealthy though. I'd keep it well quarantined from your others.

Pet shops are hopless :D

I'm sure your new friends will be very happy with one of your bubs :D

Thanks Liv, she is in fact in good health only issue is she is really FAT got a high oats diet and lots of honey sticks so needs to lose some weight. She also has just come out breeding condition I think (so does Ivan when he clipped her nails) I do like her, would I have purchased her might not have but hey i don't have another one like her. Hopefully the lady and her kids will like one of my pet types they are instrested in birds and did their research when it comes to cages they have shelled out alot for the set up but fell down with what to feel the bird and how to pick a good one. hopefully with some education they will be happy and well informed budgie owners. Also I gave her the link to here so hopefully she will stop by.

Thats really nice of you to do that Angelic iam sure the lady really appreciates your help and the kids will have a real good young bird tamed rather than try and deal with an older bird which is not what they wanted in the first place............. hope it all goes well John & Swanacilli

Av mate, she is a nice bird but I would have to agree with Liv on this - It isn't healthy looking at all -

Tail is down, Wings are down, light ( Very faint) staining above the cere -

But they is only my opinion :D .... She is :D Nice,

Before I would let those people adopt one of my birds I would make sure I would do a home visit and everything was set up and that they are really truley willing to take on the responsibility. No matter what the pet store said they bought the bird and should have been caring for her properly period (nasty hen or not) I personally would be very wary about adopting out a bird to someone who gave me a bird in this condition. That is me though. :D

I know you will be able to get her healthy and back up to par, she is a nice looking hen.

Elly, you have a good point. I always want to try and help as well. But end up doing the wrong thing. Wanting something and being prepared to be something is two different things.

Angelic, I'd also make sure they (meaning the children) "report for duty" to learn the ropes about caring and handling as well. I would NEVER give my babies away to someone that will not be their best friend 24/7! If they really want a birdie, they will make an effort to learn.

Thanks guys, before I took the picture poor girl had been taken back and forth and grabbed out of cages so she is all ruffled and really not happy and I would say stressed. She has settled today and looks 100 times better.

As for the lady they researched cages and got the set up but listened to the pet store on what to feed the poor girl so i have given them more info and will work with them. Don't worry not going to give my babies away to just anyone.

Ahhhh, Glad that she is in good health .... Certianly a great point with the kids too there..

I think that she has had the last two months just being totally stressed out! It would be hard for an avairy bird to all of a sudden be caught shoved in a box to the pet store, re caught back in a box home to a new home then a whole bunch of people trying to touch her not to mention change of food then back in a box to my house then back to the store, again being grabbed everytime. Then finally back to my house in a new cage and then again back in a box down to Ivans her nails clipped and back again to my house and really she is not very happy but she has settled nicely in the past day or two.

I hope she keeps up going as she is not a bad hen. As for her owners they took teo of my budgie books and decided to change some things around (like move the bird out fo the kitchen) they are willing to learn, they started strong but do way laid by a petshop owner who was just trying to make a sale
